Baltron's Beacon - your experiences?

First Post
Fortieth thread of a series on the old classic Dungeons & Dragons adventure modules. It is interesting to see how everyone's experiences compared and differed.

Did you Play or DM this adventure (or both, as some did)? What were your experiences? Did you complete it? What were the highlights for your group?

Alas...it sits on my shelf having never been played or DMed.

*sigh*

If only pesky thing like work and school didn't get in the way of my role-playing games... :(

Our party got our A$$ handed to us a couple of times in that one... :)

I don't recall a lot of details, but vaguely remember having a blast in it.

I THINK there was some pretty cool puzzle solving in the basement - something to do with teleportation?

I played in it last year, the upper levels were a blast.

The lower levels though (which were through a teleporter on the second level, so they mav have been taken from another module), those I shudder to remember.

This is one of those modules that annoy me about "early" D&D adventures.

For instance, the entry level of the ruined castle is trapped and guarded. The PCs have a virtual gauntlet to go through to get in. Yet, in the basement of the castle (food/water storage basement, not the "special" basement) there are 5 trolls who snuck in and are looking for food. The only way in to that area is through the trapped and guarded entry level, and then down a 5'-wide trap door in the floor. How did the trolls get in? Why don't the defenders know about them? How long are they going to stay? Etc. Stupid.

This is as bad as the roaming basilisk in the Slavepits of the Undercity.

I must be bleary eyed this morning. I openned this thread because I read "Baltron's Bacon" as the title. Then I read the first post about "Baltron's Bacon." Then I saw the image and read "Baltron's Beacon."

I can't be the only one making this mistake....
