NPC Curses & Challenges

I am starting this thread to hopefully generate a cool list of curses and challenges that could be used by intelligent NPCs against PCs.

I have a real problem in generating these (especially off the top of my head) and too often resort to using words I would use in the modern world. This really detracts from the game. So (and I am sure there are other GMs out there that would appreciate this) I would love to hear some of your best curses and challenges used by NPCs.

Or even some references from other sources. I have actually written down a few from a Conan novel for my current campaign (set on the high seas) and they have fitted in well lately. I often recall a line from a Gary Gygax novel about Kord about being 'angrier than a wet fire elemental'. This is the sort of stuff I am after, as well as cool challenges a confident NPC may offer to PCs.

Let's start cursing (and see what we can get past the moderators :)).

Curses I have used include-

- "You feel like you are about to fall off the ground." PC receives a -6 to all Dex based skill checks, and some other skills (climb, jump, swim, etc) are at a -4.

- "The room seems to be really warm. You are having trouble breathing. Your eyes want to explode from your head, and your ears are ringing." That would be a negitive to Con. This one the Players thought was a disease. The Cleric took remove disease the next day and- it didn't work then he tried a Heal check and realized it wasn't a disease. What could it be? :D

- "Your skin feels like its crawling, and you itch all over." This reduces their ability to sleep, and be comfortable, works well when you need a good nights sleep.

- Give a long discription of a terrible nightmare. The character wakes up screaming. Give them another nightly encounter.

Work out a few ahead of time, write them down and keep adding to the list. Rework descriptions so that you don't repeat yourself to often, and don't use the same curse more then twice within twenty curses so the Players won't pick up on what is a curse and what isn't.

Ah Blacksilver, all very cool curses...but not the curses I am after

Sorry, I need to explain the post a little more.

What I am after is what intelligent NPCs may say to PCs, such as 'Arr ya filthy curs'. Yeah, we are playing a pirate campaign at moment. I have written down a heap to use from 'Conan of the Isles' and they have gone down well.

I am after others that GMs have used, or good ones you have read in books :)

"May ghouls feast on your entrails!"
"I'll bleed you like a stuck pig."
"Taste my blade, vermin!"
"Humans! Not worth the flesh they're printed on!"
"I will break you."
"Let's get this pretense over with."
"Die, so you may meet your ancestors in Hell."
"You will not live to regret this."

This the sort of thing you're after?

jack, don'tcha know it's bad luck to wake a man when he's sleepin?

....

ok, onto the real meat of the subject.. fun curses for the NPCs to scream at pcs...

hmm...

may you spend your afterlife chanined to a post in excrementa, the 945th layer of the abyss!

... or, if you prefer something slightly less smelly, could always go with something like:

may you forever be forced to listen to the isnane winds of pandemonium...

something like that. planar names/insults could be both curses and cuses ;) .

Yes, these are exactly the curses i am looking for.
We can make a huge list from this, which I am sure would be valuable to many DMs out there.

Even simple terms that can be used in place of modern ones would be good: curs, dogs, grognards, dolards etc

bump
:( Is it the title of this thread that is not catchy? I figured this would make a great list :(

Maybe I shold have named it something like "Insult your players" or "Swear words you can get away with".

A list of insults NPCs could use would be very handy in my mind. :heh:
