The Blue & The Grey (Long Shots)

A few days after your return to Pasadena, Dales asks you in his office. He appears to have cooled down completely from the loss of Pruitt, but quiclky closes the door as you enter and sit.

"I haven't given up on getting a hold of this guy. Most likely, he's headed back east, but whether he goes all the way to Washington or stops in Ohio is anyone's guess. Regardless, it's now up to some friends in the capital. So we need to concentrate on some of the matters at hand.

"You guys did a great job at protection detail, so I'd like to see how you work on an investigation. Somebody found a fresh human liver on the beach west of Malibu. There haven't been any missing persons reported anywhere locally, so when a buddy of mine in the Senate told me something interesting, my ears perked up. I met him when Kefauver's circus came to town a few years back. Anyway, he says a hit man from one of the Midwest crime families hasn't come back from a couple days' fun and sun right here in LA. Somebody definitely IDed him coming into town, but he hasn't been seen anywhere since then.

"The blood work hasn't been finished on the liver, and I doubt we can make a actual victim from it. But if the blood type matches this torpedo, that's as good a lead as any. Tomorrow is when I was told the coroner will have the results. You can tell him I sent you."

Great job? We almost got killed, Heywood thinks. He unconciously smooths out his shirt sleeves and adjusts his glasses.

"An investigation sounds great to me, boss. Do we know anything about this hitman or are we going to have to check that out, too?" he asks.

"His name is Louis Aiello. I understand he operates out of Chicago. According to some medical records his blood type is B-, so if the liver matches, we're talking about narrowing it down to 5% or so of Americans.

I can give you some bars and places where his set might hang out. As long as you are clear that you're only interested in him, you should be alright."

"Hey Boss, sounds real interesting. Should be a fun one." Bishop answers to Dales.

Bishop grabs his coat "Lets hit it partner."

Once outside Bishop will ask Heywood "Do you know much about the mob?"

Officially, since the the Director is not convinced it is a problem, the FBI is not interested in organized crime.

Unofficially, with a Knowledge(Streetwise) check at DC 15-
[sblock]The Dragna family runs the mob in LA, and on most of the West Coast. The capo is Frank Carbo, who clawed his way to the top after Bugsy Seigel was murdered in 1947. One of the guys he beat, Mickey Cohen, is currently doing time for tax evasion. The Scaviglia family, which Aiello works for, is small time right now, but ambitious.[/sblock]
Dales' list-
[sblock]Leather's Gym, where Carbo worked as a boxing manager, is a well-known front for the family.
Aiello was seen at Dead Charlie's, a popular hangout for toughs and Italian-American singers.
Many out-of-state bosses stay at the Imperatriz Hotel in Santa Monica.[/sblock]
The man to see at the LA County coroner is Mark Kafesjian.

"I know some," Heywood says. "Frank, uh, Carbo is the one in charge of the mob here on the west coast."

He looks over the list they got from Dales. "Since the coroner won't have anything until tomorrow, I think we should check out Dead Charlie's. I'm sure someone there knows something."

Dead Charlie's is a large looking club in the Century City area, near the edge land owned by Fox Studios. There is nothing that actually says "Dead Charlie's" on the outside; instead, the name is given as "Vallone's" but it screams mob - lots of white Romanesque statues on the patio area and so forth. As it is late morning, it looks pretty quiet, although there are diners there for lunch. You see a fair number of black autos parked in the rear as you leave your car and head through the double door entrance. A thin maitre'd is at the front when you arrive.

"Yeah we would like a table for two." Bishop will state to the maitre'd.

You are shown to a table, amongst several other groups enjoying their lunch. A waiter will come and take your order unless you do or ask for anything unusual.
