Robert Jordan is gone

Read last week that he has been sick for a while, was afraid he might die before finishing his story. Might sound selfishly, but that was why i knew of him, it's a bit like a half finished michael angelo...

While i agree that the later books where longer winded then usual, they were still entertaining to read. I love long stories, thick novels and the more volumes the better!

I'm sorry too. I never finished the series. I'm stuck on book five. I'm sure he would have finished the series sooner but for his health issues.

I echo Mouseferatu's comments. I gave up on WoT after the 6th book or so- it just wasn't moving at all, and I absolutely hated most of the characters; I even got tired of the repetitive fantasy trope of national character being the defining characteristic of all people from that land.

That said, I was thinking about possibly trying to complete the series once it was finally concluded, and I sympathize with everyone who will never know how it was intended to finish.

I imagine their feeling must be on the level I had when I first heard of Roger Zelazny's death, and knowing I wouldn't ever get another "real" Amber book (much less any other works from that brilliant author).

My sympathies to Jordan's family and fans. :(

I've never had a series suck me in the way the Wheel of Time did when I first read it. Back in 1993 or 1994, a friend loaned me the first five or six books in the series (all that had been written up to that point), and I got hooked right away. It only took me about two months to get through them, and this was when I didn't have very much time to read. I lived and breathed with these characters while I was reading, and granted, this probably had a lot to do with where I was in my life at the time, but when I finished the books, it really felt like a part of my life was over - I was that much into the series.

It's a feat that no other author has managed since, and even though I gave up on the series around book eight or nine or so, it's what I'll always remember Jordan for. Rest in peace, RJ.

I do hope that this is a joke. Sarcasm and humor are often lost in translation on messageboard forums. If it is, it's in very poor taste. If it's not, it's a very callous and despicable thing to want to do because an individual had the misfortune to die before his time. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you're trying to make an attempt at humor, though it falls flat on its face.

I think it was probably a reference on one of RJ's jokes that some of his fans had threatened to do just that if he'd died before finishing the series. Still not the most appropriate thing for this thread, but since it was based on one of the deceased's own bits of humor, I doubt it was ment to be disrespectful.

I was hoping it was something like that. I had my doubts that anyone could possibly be serious about that kind of thing, but... you never know sometimes. Thanks for clarifying.

RJ said many times that he was making extensive notes and telling people how the book was supposed to be finished, so that if the worse happened it would still be completed.

I hope it happens.

I'll miss RJ.
