Fiend of Possession and Gear

What happens to a Fiend of Possession's gear when it possesses someone?

The Fiend of Possession is a Prc that allows an evil outsider to gain the ability to possess things. One of its other abilities is Etherealness at will. Etherealness states that your gear becomes ethereal along with you (because this is how ethereal jaunt works.) The FoP ability states that the etherealness ends when you possess someone.

So, if your gear isn't ethereal, it should be manifested somewhere. Does it appear on the possession victim? That seems awkward. Does it exist in potential space (like a weapon in a glove of storing?) Do you benefit from it?

Ethereal Form(Su): Become Ethereal at will as if casting Etherealness
(17th caster level). Possessing an object or creature effectively ends a use
of this ability, so time spent in another body or object doesn't count
against the duration of this ability.

Perhaps we don't have the official answer, so we are waiting just as you are?

My at-table ruling would be that the gear plops into a pile on the spot where it was at that moment.

I would rule the gear stays with the FoP at all times. In fact, I wouldn't imagine that the FoP would be able to use their gear while possessing someone (anything worn or carried that is). He could still stash it somewhere.

OK. Thanks for weighing in.

I had a lot of balance issues stemming from the FoP assuming he could benefit from both his own gear and whatever gear his thrall was wearing - basically two sets of gear in one.

Treat it like magic items for a druid when they change form. All items become a part of the new form and become inert. In this case form means "possessed" indvidual.
