Favored Souls are spontaneous divine spell casters that pick thier spells from the cleric list.
My question is - consider spells like Holy Smite, which is a 4th level cleric spell in the Good domain, but not on the general cleric list.
Should a good aligned Favored Soul who worships a diety with the Good domain be able to select Holy Smite as one of his 4th level spells to spontaneously cast (I don't actually care that much about this particular domain spell for my favored soul character, but it makes for a good example to initiate the discussion)?
If your answer here is no, then what if the Favored Soul purchased a divine scroll of Holy Smite? Would having the scroll to learn the spell from change your answer?
If your answer is still no, a Favored Soul should be able to research the spell and create it as a "new spell". I would have to work with my DM to determine what this would actualy entail.
Would this work any differently for a domain spell from a list that was actually a wizard (or other class) spell? My gut instinct tells me that this would seem a lot more abusable, and should not be allowed.
Also, what about a domain spell that is cleric only from a domain that my Favored Soul's diety does not offer? Since Favored Souls don't get domain spells, I would think this really does not matter per the rules.
