Salutations!
Since I can not find a 3.5 version of the Forsaker PrC (from MotW) anywhere I have taken it upon myself to create one and was hoping for some input.
Really, the biggest issue at hand with the task, is dealing with the Damage Reduction ability. For those who don't know, the 3.0 version worked like this:
P. 59 of Masters of the Wild
"The forsaker gains access to his damage reduction ability through the destruction of magic items. If he goes more than 24 hours without destroying magic items whose market prices total at least 100 gp per point of damage reduction, he loses that ability until he does so."
Now, the problem isn't with this part, it is with the DR gained. It starts at 2nd level with DR 3/+1 and ends at 10th lvl with DR 11/+5. What should this become in D&D 3.5?
The first thing that comes to mind is of course DR X/magic but the problem with this is that there is no scaling of the bypass element. It doesn't matter how much DR the 3.5 forsaker gained, once he faced an opponent with a magic weapon it would be useless, no matter how slightly enchanted that weapon may be.
My other thought was to emulate the DR of the barbarian class; simply give the forsaker a DR of X/- but the problem with this is that it could easily get way out of hand. This type of DR is more potent than the rest since it has no bypass element so it would be crucial to make sure it balanced. Could this be done by requiring a higher gp requirement? Perhaps reducing the amount of DR gained?
Any thoughts on this would be highly appreciated
