Warlords of the Accordlands: what happend?

I've been waiting for it too. I know the ccg never interested me, but the backstory about the world has been very intriguing to me.

The way I hear it... John Zinser was running D&D. Everyone wanted to be Eeeevil, so... they started an evil game. Evil PCs eventually topped out... twentieth level characters, they've killed off all the good guys... And he tells everyone, "Okay, make first level good PCs... you're now the only good guys in this world."

Or so the Germans would have us believe ;)

Anyway... last I heard, they were ready to release right before 3.5 came out, so they went back into a 'retooling' phase, to covert over to 3.5... and there have been some previews -- the Accordlands ranger looks shweet -- but then.. nothing. One could make the obligatory Obiwan comment about voices crying out and being silenced... but... nothing from em about Warlord... not even the wailing of women or gnashing of teeth.

When I talked to Jim Pinto about it at Gen Con 04', he indicated that the 3.5 thing really slowed down the line because of all the changes necessary to make to the monsters in terms of feats, monster types, damage resistance, level adjustment/ECL/Racial traits.

He also thought it might be out by December, but no promises.

This disappointed the heck out of me, too... I was very intrigued by the look and feel of the game, as well as the idea of one big book that contains an entire campaign in it.

The previews on AEG's site made it look great, with classes that were modeled after the 1st edition versions, but without being a nostalgia trip. Then they stopped updating the site, saying that they were hard at work and would update again "in a few weeks". Since then, nothing.

At least it doesn't sound like it's been completely abandoned. Anybody know what the original release date was supposed to be?

i was so intrigued by this product with the full support including the adventure book. Whatever happend to it?

I was an author on this project, and was waiting as patiently as everyone else for these 4 books to see the light of day. I've been planning running the full campaign and seeing the 3.5 updates. Yes, the 3.5 revision came right toward the end of the project and AEG is determined to make this a quality set, so they sent it through the professional editing mill to be sure it was correct.

When I spoke to jim pinto a couple of weeks ago, his response was akin to "we can release it now and it'll have problems or you can wait another couple months and it'll knock your socks off."

Not having any particular love of socks, I opted to take that route, and wait. ;)

It's good to see the enthusiasm is still high and going. I have great expectations of this product for the amount of love that went into it out at AEG.

You must not live in a cold enough climate!

Great news, thanks.

Actually, pretty good news both ways.

I'm looking forward to this project with just about everything left in me.

But there's no way I could afford it right now.

I hope the illusionist class is awesome.

Anyone care to give a quick rundown on the setting for the Warlords CCG/RPG and what stands out when compared to other fantasy worlds?

Thanks!

At its core, it's a world that was once mighty and plentiful in heroes and high adventure, but through a series of mass killings called the Assassin's Strike, all the heroes were killed off. The bad guys have won, and now your PC's are alone in a world of evil, the last good guys. BUT it is not Midnight-level "dark and dreary".

There are no halflings or gnomes, either. There are a few new races, and the classics are very well ingraved int he history of the world, elves research for immortality by experimenting on humans. Dwarves stay fast in their underground holds, the last bastion fending off an eruption of monsters from the depths below boiling out into the surface world. The surface was dominated by a great single human empire which fell and split apart into separate nations and city-states.

And then there are the Medusan Lords...from the AEG website:

"The most powerful beings in the Accordlands, however, are a super-secret cabal of evil masterminds known only as the Medusan Lords. Through their hidden power and influence, they shape and guide events throughout the Accordlands to their own nefarious ends. Their very name strikes terror into the heart of the most jaded adventurer, and only they can claim to know their ultimate purpose. Many believe the Assassins Strike was the work of the Medusan Lords. In a single blood-drenched night, assassins swept through every city and town in the Accordlands and murdered prominent leaders, heroes, clergy, anyone who might be a force for peace and justice. Lawlessness, chaos, and death are the rule, and peace, compassion, and justice are all but forgotten. No one knows who they are or where they came from, but one thing is certain; they are feared. They mean to rule the world one day, but the time is not yet right. They will let the wars rage and Warlords come and go, and when the time is right, they will seize power. All these forces and factions are created in painstaking detail, with richly drawn characters, engaging subplots, and interwoven storylines, perfect for anyone who wants a story they can sink their teeth into. "
