Arcana Evolved (AU) / Diamond Throne question

Hello all,

Well I purchased Arcana Evolved last night. I am new to the AU/AE universe. I held off on buying AU for a variety of reasons, but AE stood up and said buy me. So I did. Looks like a really neat product, and one that is much clearer than the PHB. Plus itis one of the sturdiest RP books I own. That book is designed for wear!

Anyways, on to my question. What kinds of classes are the average joe in the DT setting? I think the classes seem real neat, but is everyone in the world one of them? I mean, is the farmer plowing his field an akashic, or the typical soldier manning the battlements really a warmain? Or are we supposed to default back to the DMG classes Expert, Warrior, etc?

I must congradulate Malhavoc (and Green Ronin for Blue Rose & BCCS) for putting in a section for converting standard D20 stuff to AE. I wish more companies would do this. It is nice to see alternate rules adn ways of doing things, but without any guidelines, it can become real work to figure out how to convert something. I really appreciated it.

As per page 5 of AE, the commoner, warrior, expert, and aristocrat ( but not the adept) from the DMG are all useful in the lands of the Diamond throne. I would imagine that most of the people in the world would fit into one of those NPC classes.

I've always assumed that the base NPC classes - Expert, Aristocrat, et al. - were the bulk of the populace. Not that every blacksmith was a warmain 2... etc.

I didn't make sense that everyone fit into the classes of the book. I knew if I asked, someone would point out what I was missing.

When you are missing something in AE, assume that the DMG and MM come next.

It is said however that Aristocrats, Experts, Warriors are present on the Lands of the Diamond Throne. But remember: AE's purpose is to be YOUR game, even more so than core D&D. You have in AE more power as a DM because you are in charge of interpreting everything the way you want it. Doesn't mean it lacks detail, but your example illustrates that base concept behind AE's design: what classes are there? Do I use chunks of the PHB or not at all? There's no Slug Totem Warrior? Let's create it using the guidelines! Et cetera.

So go ahead my friend, make AE your own, and enjoy the freedom!

Thanks for the tips. I in no way meant that Au was incomplete, just wondering what the official take on it was. Something I didn't understand. I plan to make things thoroughly my own. I will likely bring in many classes from outside.

That wonderful appendix will help me do so.
