Circus Music?

Qualidar

First Post
My MnM group is about to encounter the Carnival of Fear , and I'm looking for some good background music. Any ideas? I need both "normal" circus tunes as well as twisted versions.

Thanks, all!

There's a band composer who, in the same vein as Sousa, wrote tons of circus marches. I just can't think of his name. Just do a search at Amazon in the music category for "circus march" and I'm sure you'll find whole CDs devoted to this genre.

If you're a Cowboy Bebop fan, you'll want to check out the circus-style music that played when Spike Spiegel threw down against Mad Pierrot in Episode 20 of the anime.

For something a little twisted, try Siouxsie and the Banshees: "Carousel" from the album Peepshow. That song always creeps me out.

Try to find March of the Gladiators as performed by the Canadian Brass. It is the song everybody thinks of as "Circus Music" played the way it was meant to be played - as a march, and a rather warlike one at that, without the caliope it sounds completely different.

Funeral for a Marionette is another, most people know of it as the theme to the show Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

The Auld Grump

Tom Waits- "Blood Money" Album all the below songs probably qualify as "Circus Music from Hell"

Misery is the River of the World
All the World is Green
God's Away on Business
Knife Chase
Starving in the Belly of the Whale
Calliope

Great album.

That's not to say that Tom Waits' Big Time and Black Rider don't also have excellent dark circus music.

I think it's called 'entry of the gladiators'. Composer's name is "Fucik". Seriously.

I did a bearshare seach for "circus" and aside from a lot of country songs with the word country in them, KISS did something called "psycho circus". Lots of obscure stuff out there. Like I said, I imagine there are collage CDs which have circus themed music on them. That'd be your best bet.

Another group that you could look for is "Cirque Du Soleil".
