Creative Exercise - The City

Okay another Creative Exercise for us but this one is confined to a single city (and surrounds) you can create districts (eg Market, Ghetto, Old City, High Street), Streets within districts, individual shops/buildings, NPCs, guilds, organisations, rumours, events, plots and scenarios - anything that might happen in a metropolis. Oh and the city need NOT be pseudo-European (unless you want it to be). (PS the rule wait 3 contributions before you contribute again)

So to start us off:

"The City is on a River"

The river in question is actually right next to a waterfall and the city is built along the rock face down multiple levels.

A hundred miles from the coast, it is the farthest point upriver that trade ships can reach.

The city government is made up of nobles, guildmasters, and high ranking clergy. These three factions are informal, not official, yet they often struggle with one another for political power.

In the poorest area of the city is a seer who has looked the same since peoples great granfather's time.

The seer in question has a rather odd looking right ear with it being tatooed completely to resemble scales of some sort of creature.

The city is built partially into the rock face alongside and around the waterfall, with some of the poorest districts and industrial districts in man-made caverns, but the city also extends a bit onto the upper and lower shores by this waterfall, and the richest districts are actually built onto large stilt-platforms high over the river.

Along the bank of the river at the head of the waterfall are the challange grounds. This is the only legal place to duel in the city. There are three dueling areas, two are public, the last is reserved for the most formal of duels and is actually an Anti-Magic zone.

On the main road through the richest district stands a condemed house all borded up. In the past there has been attempt to tear this eye soar down, but the owner has always paid his taxes and seems to be able to thwart all legal attempts to do so. Exactly seventeen days after each Solstice and Equinox a light appears in the highest window and shines throughout the night.

The city is located in a temperate environment, with deciduous trees, and fertile grasslands nearby.
