Hi there!
I'm currently working on a chinese themed setting in conjunction with the oriental adventures rules and came up with a variant of the catfolk from the Miniatures Handbook. What is your opinion about these races? are they too powerful? should they require a higher level adjust?
Baoren Catfolk “Panther Men”
Baoren are a race of feline spiritfolk roughly resembling a panther with shining black fur in appearance. Variations in fur color are common, though they usually tend to darker shades. Several tribes of Baoren have lightly colored fur, much more resembling the Huren, which whom they share a distant ancestry. They are agile and quick and a little bit smaller than their Huren counterparts and prefer the dark jungles and woods to the open plains. Their villages and cities are usually well concealed underneath the evergreen veil and if not for the network of roads connecting their settlements, it would be really difficult for outsiders to find them. Baoren are known for their extraordinary patience and their affinity towards the magical traditions of their ancient heritage.
Skills: +2 to Climb, Hide, Listen and Move Silently Checks
Attributes: +4 Dexterity, +2 Wisdom
Base Land Speed 40 feet
Low-Light Vision
+1 bonus to Natural Armor
+4 to Concentration checks
Automatic Languages: Imperial Common, Baohua
Bonus Languages: Huhua, Draconic, Sylvan
Level Adjustment: +1
Preferred Class: Ranger or Shaman
Huren Catfolk “Tiger men”
Another race of feline spiritfolk roughly resembling tigers in their appearance, the Huren are a fearsome sight to behold. Their bodies are covered in striped fur of brown to yellow color, but there are some tribes whose appearance shows more of the shared ancestry with the Baoren. The Huren prefer the coastal mountains and plains over the dark confines of the jungles, but it is not unknown for them to live in their brother’s world. Their muscular bodies are built for speed and strength and while the Baoren are quick and agile, Huren compensate that apparent lack of speed with ferocity and strength in combat. While their brothers from the jungle patiently stalk their prey sometimes for days on end, Huren are enduring hunters. Once they discover a prey’s tracks they hunt it down with merciless endurance, sometimes following a fleeing foe for miles on end without collapsing. In combat they either use weapons or their powerful claws to strike down their enemies. They prefer single combat over use of magic to bring their foes down.
Skills: +2 to Listen and Move Silently Checks
Attributes: +4 Strength, +2 Dexterity
Base Land Speed 40 feet
Low-light Vision
+1 Bonus to Natural Armor
+2 on Con based endurance checks
Automatic Languages: Imperial Common, Huhua
Bonus Languages: Baohua, Draconic, Sylvan
Level Adjustment +1
Preferred Class: Fighter or Monk
Any oppinons, comments or suggestions are appreciated.
Cheers, Ariakor
