ENnies - Ceramic DM Fundraiser -- Now ON SALE!

The 5th annual ENnie awards will be held at Gen Con Indy this August, and the ENnies staffers have put together a fundraiser book with the help of the creative geniuses here at EN World. You can help support the ENnies by buying a copy of the Ceramic DM 2005 ENnies Fundraiser, available at RPGNow!

You can discuss the actual book here. The first posts about the book start around #75. We hope you enjoy the stories!

The rest of this thread is the original post.

For the past few years, many posters here have contributed stories to the Ceramic DM competitions, writing contests where two posters are paired against each other, given a set of pictures to craft a story around.

The fundraiser is completely voluntary, but we'd like former Ceramic DM participants to offer their stories to be compiled into pdf releases, probably one for each competition. Because most of the images used as illustrations are not common use, we might not be able to include the illos, but the stories themselves are the main focus.

All proceeds from the sales will go to supporting the ENnies, primarily to pay for advertisements and any rentals that might be required at the con. We want to have a memorable event, and honestly we don't know how much this might raise, but I'll personally make sure the proceeds will be used to make this year's ENnies the best possible.

If you're interested, or if you have any concerns, please post here. I'm setting a tentative deadline of June 14th for receiving submissions, but please don't start sending me stories until Monday, May 23. Also, you might want to make revisions and edits to your stories; thta's fine. If people want to read the stories as posted, they're freely available on the boards, so we ought to at least polish them up a bit if we're going to be selling them.

Let me know what you think.

. . .

Edit: I'm guessing some people didn't read all the way through and so missed this, so I'm posting it up top.

If I may say so clearly, if you want to submit something, please send it to me. Please do not say "Here are my stories (link, link) if you want them." My workload is heavy enough that I won't be able to follow links to your stories, read them all, and copy/paste them to document files. Please save me a little bit of work by deciding what you like and sending those to me at RangerWickett@hotmail.com.

Clamber in behind this one people! This is yet another chance to see all your hard work pay off.

I do have one question though. Will participation disqualify participants form running for judge in next years ENnies?

You're welcome to any story of mine you want. I'll take a look and see what might be worthy. Distance (timewise) should let me see them more clearly, good and bad. :)

I'll ask about it, but I honestly don't see why it would. This won't be an RPG product, just a fiction product, so it's not eligible to win an ENnie itself. As far as I know, the only thing that will disqualify you from being a judge is having written, edited, or otherwise worked on an RPG product in the award's year, and even then I think it's possible to still judge if the product won't be entered for consideration.

But I'll ask, just in case.

I am certian this is wrong, JoeGKushner was disqualified for havoing a single entry in a not-for-profit that was not to be entered.

Perhaps, since the pictures might be problematic, we could impose on some of the talented folks here to do some illustrations?

I'd be greatly pleased to submit "Life Imitates Art" or "Mind over Matter" as I feel they are the best of what I've done, but you are of course welcome to any of them.

Ok, here's my feelings:

1. We really don't want to use anyone's work without permission, so most of the illos will be lost.

2.Therefore we should try to pick stories that didn't depend on the illos to work. For those reviewing their stories for submision, I recommend thinking about whether any revision is needed to put over something that would have been obvious from the visual.

3. Also, since I own my own intellectuial property, I can freely give permission for a one time use of my artwork, as long as a caption appears adjacent to it stating that it is "Used by permission of Sialia. All rights reserved." You can make this itty bitty as long as it is still readable. I may not have signed some of my earlier ones when I was young and foolish, so please let me know which ones you are using. Not only will I be able to check to make sure you have a version that is signed, but if you want a higher resolution version, I can probably provide that. I usually work very large and then scale things down to fit a typical computer screen. Depends whether you want print quality, or "downloads fast" quality.

4. I'll take a look at my "trilogy" and see how I feel about submitting it. (Gracious, do you want something as long as all that? I was having an attitude problem that month, as I recall.)

You're welcome to use any of my stories, but my personal favorites are "Nighttime Wanderings" from Autumn 2004 and "Huntress" from Winter 2005.

Heh, I don't think offering my stories would help you get money - but I will offer them nevertheless. :)

I'll look over some of them (the better ones) and see if I can edit one to make sense without the pics.

And here I thought you were soliciting new stories :)
