[Recruiting] An Undersea Stormwrack Campaign

Aeolius

Adventurer
There are currently three openings in "Beneath the Pinnacles of Azor'alq" (BPAA), a 3e D&D World of Greyhawk message-based game (Play-by-Post) set beneath the surface of the Dramidj Ocean. The current level of play is between 7 to 9. New players are welcome to create characters ranging from levels 6 through 7. The campaign, which uses the “core rules of 3e, select supplements from 2e, and the heart of 1e”, is designed for those interested in participating in a work of coauthored interactive fiction.

Now enjoying its eighth year, the BPAA campaign was created in 1997, while the game began in earnest in 1998.

In the campaign, I post a new "Chapter" once a week. During the week, the players respond to events in the Chapter, to NPCs, and to one another. I will add updates as time permits. The next week, I post a new Chapter. While this method of game play requires a degree of patience and the occasional spell-checker, I have found it one of the best options for those with hectic schedules.

Hi Aeolius,

Being a navy brat this sounds like a gas. Do you have Fantasy Flight Games Mythic Races? If so I'd love to have a bash at playing one of the Ooloi (page 86). Otherwise the Mahkim would be interesting to have a go at, they're a web enahancement from Mythic Races available here (who may not work being predominantly swamp dwellers but we could make a couple of subtle changes). If you're up for either let me know and I'll get cracking on a PC concept.

Thanks

Daz

Hey, so this seems to be a somewhat slower game?

That would be just right for me ...

OTOH, I am not that much familiar with Greyhawk - I only have the 3.0 Gazetteer somewhere lying around. Would that pose a big problem?

<later Edit>
I looked at your website, and had the idea of playing a surface explorer, er, an explorer from the surface. Maybe he could be half-water elemental seeking his roots/ancestors, or someone with magic items or he has magically transformed himself .... ?

Hello, this is jpwic I was speaking to you earlier on IRC. I mentioned that I was interested in joining the game. I have an interest in playing a Nixie (from Savage Species) Sorceror. I'm just curious what books are you using? If you are using Complete Arcane I would eventually like to take the Elemental Savant PrC. If you would like me to roll up a sample character let me know and I will get started on it right away.

PS For some reason your Email addy on the website seems to be broken.

This has definitely peaked my interest. Maybe a Water Genasi or Aquatic Elf Ranger. Or a Half-Dragon? (If for no other reason that because I have never had a chance to try it before.)

I do, in fact, have Mythic Races. It's a good bet that if a 3e supplement pertains to the ocean, I've taken a gander at it. ;) I have not, as yet, figured out how the Ooloi fit into the World of Greyhawk, but that sounds like a welcome challenge.

Stranger things have happened. ;) One PC is a human with a fish hag (beastie of my own design, a pseudonatural hag created by the kaorti) symbiont and grafts. Granted, after the game's long hiatus, I have had trouble contacting that player.

I have savage species and Complete Arcane (gotta love the 3e elemental grue. Granted, three 1e AD&D vardigg could combine to make a composite creature. The elemental bluehag NPC in BPAA is the offspring of such an amalgam and a night hag. )

All sound like feasible options. I have Draconomicon, if you'd like to try that route.

Ok then, so I'll work up a quick character too see if you like it (I'll leave the math in) I'll try to get a background/description done but the satellite installation guy is supposed to be by today so I do not know if I will be able to fit it in.. Would you prefer I post it here or email it to you?

Is Nixie/Sorc 2 good? Oh and one last thing what method do you use to for stats? Point buy or 4d6 drop lowest?

Unfortunately Draconomicon is one book I don't currently have. But if possible I would still like to try that route. (Will try once again to find a copy.) In the mean time could I just use the template from the MM? Or is there enough difference that I need to wait for the book?

i.e. a L4 nixie (4 levels as a monster class, per SS) / L2 sorcerer? Works for me!

I'm flexible on how you wish to generate your stats. Granted, all 18s might be a tad suspicious ;)

Draconomicon does mention some half-dragons not in the MM, such as half-lung dragons (OA), which have water breathing as a special ability, half-gem dragons, and half-planar dragons. Otherwise, the non-dragon half would need to be a water-breather, such as a half-black dragon merfolk or a half-bronze dragon scrag, etc.

Right on:) Ok, I'll do a 4d6 drop the lowest... I'll see if I can roll up the character today and post the stats, I'll have a background ASAP as well..
