Dungeon #125 - August 2005

Hard on the heels of the super-sized Dungeon #124, I found #125 in my mailbox today. Here's what's inside...

Adventures:

"Three Faces of Evil" -- Mike Mearls offers up episode 2 of the Age of Worms adventure path (level 3 PCs). PCs enter a temple complex beneath the mines of Diamond Lake to confront three cooperating factions of religious fanatics. The adventure is about 30 pages long and features six maps depicting the areas of the temple complex, plus two player handouts. It's a good thing most bad guys keep journals! :D (I'm guilty of the same thing btw... :)) My thoughts: Without spoiling too much I can say
that there are a lot of human/humanoid encounters, though within them there is a fair variety
. It looks to be a fun adventure, with good notes on NPC tactics, though I felt there was a lost opportunity w/regard to a Boss-type (see illustration on p. 37 -- I was expecting something that cool to have a special ability to go along with his "modification") and there was a lack of a certain something with regard to atmosphere -- whatever "it" was that made the first episode so compelling, this one has less of it in my opinion.

"Pit of the Fire Lord" -- Eberron campaign arc conclusion, levels 6-9. I haven't really read it so I don't have any thoughts.

"Seekers of the Silver Forge" -- A water-based adventure for 15th level PCs, uses rules from Stormwrack as well as ExPsiHB (though all relevant rules are provided). PCs explore a sunken city. Looks like fun stuff.

Articles: Dungeoncraft, Campaign Workbook: "Senechals and Majordomos", "Guides" & "Beaker of Endless Potions." Plus the usual jazz (minus Wil Save of course).

Dungeon #126 preview: "Encounter at Blackwall Keep" (Sean Reynolds) takes the heroes of Diamond Lake out of town to travel with Allustan the wizard; you can get even more info on what's coming up next at the end of "Three Faces of Evil"; Age of Worms adventure path for PC lvl 5. "Clockworck Fortress" by Wolfgang Baur: a mechanical man seeks heroes to help him reclaim his ancestral fortress from a lunatic derro and worse (PC lvl 8). "Blood of Malar" (Eric L. Boyd): first adventure in the "Vampires of Waterdeep" campaign arc; FR adventure for lvl 13 PCs.

Not there. The issue makes reference to a downloadable thingy, which apparently isn't quite ready to go yet (just checked over on the Paizo boards). This isn't the same download as the 124 web supplement, btw, which IS available now.

Perfect Timing

Eric, as always you are the man with the info, even 5 years after the story of 3e hit the air you are still providing the info I need. :D

Specificly thanks for the update on Issue 126 - I had seen mention on the FR arc on the last Dragon but it had not mentioned what level it was going to be for. Which I have been trying to figure out so I can start preping with a few delves into Undermountain to seperate the men form the boys before I start the arc.

Thanks again for the update.

Erik provides info on the Age of Worms download in his editorial:

He starts by noting that "author after author" has submitted adventures for the AoW AP that go beyond their allotted word count; and rather than cut 5000 words from the adventures, he's decided to put the extras online. "Age of Worms Overload" will be a free PDF with the following goodies: campaign overview; 50 stat blocks of Diamond Lake denizens; encounter tables; info on the wilderness around Diamond Lake; rumor list; concept sketches; and Eberron and FR conversion appendices.
