Call for d20 System Adventures

Green Ronin is looking for d20 fantasy adventures. If you are a designer and you think you can meet Green Ronin's standards of excellence, we want to hear from you. Here's what we are looking for:

* Complete d20 fantasy adventures of approximately 20,000 words. Note that we are not looking for proposals, but finished adventures. They should be self-contained and stand-alone.
* Adventures can be of any style, from political intrigue to investigation to dungeon crawl, as long as they are creative and compelling.
* These adventures should be playable with just the core rulebooks. It's fine to use Open Game Content from other books, but each adventure should include all the info the GM will need to use it.
* The adventures can be for characters of any level, but those for low to mid level are more likely to be accepted. We are willing to consider high level and even epic level adventures, but they'd need to be exceptional in conception and execution.
* These adventures should assume no particular campaign setting. Detailing a localized area is fine, but do not get into nations, geopolitics, or the like. Gods should be referred to generically (God of War, God of Knowledge, etc.).
* Your submission should include any necessary maps. These do not need to be of professional quality, but they do need to be clear enough that a cartographer can work from them.
* Submissions must follow our writer's guidelines. You can find them here: http://64.17.155.164/gr_files/d20_Guidelines.pdf
* If you do use Open Game Content, you must provide an accurate Section 15 to reflect what you've used.

You can send your submission to evilronin [at] greenronin [dot] com . If we accept your adventure for publication, we'll send you a contract with the following terms:

* You'll receive 3 cents a word for the work, to be paid within 45 days of publication.
* You'll receive 6 copies of the published work.
* The adventure will be considered Work for Hire.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Not that I'm complaining that Green Ronin is having an open call, but I find myself wondering...why d20 fantasy and why now? With no tie-ins to GR established settings, it seems like an odd play. Admittedly, I'm not privy to where/how these generic fantasy adventures will be used, but it still strikes me as unusual. Care to shed some light on the inner GR workings with this?

(And on a side note, how did your group like Vengeance in Freeport?

Chris, do you have a cutoff date for accepting submissions? Or a set number of adventures that you're shooting for?

Thanks in advance. :)

I am all over this.

Just hope I can shift around my other projects to get one of these done before the end of the year!

"Not that I'm complaining that Green Ronin is having an open call, but I find myself wondering...why d20 fantasy and why now?"

We've got an angle... :)

"Do you have a cutoff date for accepting submissions? Or a set number of adventures that you're shooting for?"

The number of submissions will determine the cut-off date. I'd submit sooner rather than later.

"Is the intent to publish as a PDF or as a hard copy?"

We intend to print the adventures.

Follow-up

A couple of points I'd like to add.

If the adventure doesn't match the d20 Guidelines we've posted, we're not considering the adventure until it does. It takes a lot of time to format a manuscript properly. Even if the text is gold, I'm sending it back unread until it does match our format. In short, make certain you read the Guidelines closely and follow the instructions. That's why it's there.

It bears mentioning again: Do NOT use closed material from Wizards of the Coast products. That means, no mind-flayers, displacer beasts, feats from Complete Warrior, or the super cool and sexy brain in the vat from Libris Mortis. Only use open content from the System Reference Document. See http://64.17.155.164/gr_files/d20_Guidelines.pdf for details on using OGC from other sources.
