Need some advice in high level group...

Hey guys,

I play in a really high powered 3.5 D&D game. When I say high powered, to be more clear most PC's are in levels 50-60. This campaign has been running for many years now. Well now everything is coming to a boiling point, and I need some advice on how to protect my character. I am a pure mage with 20 levels in wizard and many other spellcasting prestiege classes. I have reason to believe many people will be coming after me shortly, including the other PCs in the group.

This might be difficult, but what I am looking for are some ideas on how to deal with the situation and protect my neck. Now the other pcs are extremely powerful, some immune to my spells. I need some really crazy ideas how to survive. Now it would take all day to describe the situation in detail, but what it comes down to is I have something that everyone wants, and they are willing to kill for it.

Conventional spells and magic effects are probably not going to cut it here. Like I said the party is extremely high powered, and are immune to many magical effects. The problem I face is that I can't even come close trying to fight these guys in melee or ranged combat. I have to rely on wits and the right spell combos.

I know this is probably hard sine I didn't give alot of details. I'm hoping that someone here has been in a similiar situation and can maybe give some advice.

Thanks :))

As a last resort, you can always give then what they are after - that way you can survive to fight another day, andm aybe get it back later on when you learn of a weakness.

Well how about pretending you don't have it anymore? Hide it somewhere secure (say, on another plane, or something) and say it was stolen (guess this only works if you aren't lawful though, as lying may violate your alignment).

Do you have time to hide what everyone is after somewhere they can't get to it?

Maybe in a hidden citadel on the negative energy plane or something, and ask a befriended diety to guard it for a while?

Well that is a problem too. Let me explain a little more. The item I have is a very powerful magic device, and the device fits together with other peices to form a item that will grant god hood.

Now there are extremely powerful villains looking for this, and if I put it someplace there is a good chance they will locate it. The other PCs don't trust my character with it since I am neutral evil. My character secertly wants all of the peices of course, so you can understand why I can't part with it.

Other party members also want the item for themselves, and I'm expecting an ambush in a few play sessions.

:)

So basically my options are

1. Finding a way to scare them from attacking me.
2. Getting more peices to become more powerful.
3. Find a way to defeat them.

The situation we are in, the only way I can get more peices is with their help, I can't do it alone. So I am pretty much stumped lol.

If you have time to prepare, you could probably create a reasonable fake. Maybe. If not, don't bother.

Otherwise, my suggestion is:

plane shift

Then just live out the rest of your days soaking in pools, drinking wine in Arborea.

*LOL* I know what *I* would do with it.

I would sell/trade the item to the villains who are looking for it. I would also buy off/charm/geas/threaten one of the villain's henchmen (better to find a non-magical means to coerce the bad guy to your side, as such things can be detected). Claim that you were attacked/ambushed and the villains wrested it from you. Convince the PC's to attack the villains, and have the bought guy collaborate your story once they encounter him. When the PC's attack, wait until they use up most of their resources, and have your bought guy disappear for a while. Once the PC's use up their resources, have you and your bought guy kill them all while they're weak. If your bought guy turns on you... well, he's expendable. Reclaim the item from the corpses, get all the PC's loot, and retire as a GOD.

Bwa ha ha!

Cut and Run

I suspect that someone of your charcters levels has the means to make him self unfindable, so why not do so?

Also, create many clones of yourself, so the players have no way of knowing which one to chase.
