Tibetan Chant by the Gregorian Chant
Adiemus self titled song from Pure Moods Vol 1

Imhotep by Jerry Goldsmith from the Mummy
Eternity by Vangrlis from 1492 Conquest of Paradise

A Natural Witch by Graeme Revell from the Craft
Deeper into the hive by Marco Beltrami Resident Evil

Of course many songs for the soundtracks for movies such as Alexander, Troy, Kingdom of Heaven, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero, House of Flying Daggers, King Arthur, Count of Monte Cristo, The Time Machine

Ghost love song by Nighwish
Music by Hans Zimmer, James Horner, John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Rachel Portman, Bryan Tyler, Joseph Loduca

I've only ever played in or mastered one campaign in which background music was utilized (and that was largely Manowar). I've always found that, rather than addign to the mood, music was only something else to talk/think over while playing. I go in more for mood lighting (when possible), various props, and minis as they do the same thing that music does without the ineterruption (no switching out CDs, pausing/playing, etc).

Warriors of Steel!

MANOWAR!!!

Songs like Warriors Of The World; Achilles, Ecstacy and Agony in Seven Parts; Carry On; I Believe; Black Wind, Fire, and Steel; Spirit Horse Of The Cherokee; and countless others, you just can't go wrong. There is a song for every concievable type of character and situation you can think of.

Also of note here is Therion. if you like Heavy Metal, and you like Opera, than you will like Therion. Thier rendition of Oh Fortuna is just phenomenal, and will blow your group away if you play it, and then begin your intro.

Just remember, to have that passion in your eyes.

As I see that you're a fellow Manowar fan, I'll have to make sure that I email you a copy of Kingdom Come (heavy metal, pulp fantasy, roleplay inspired by Manowar) when and if I ever get it finished up :)

[Warning: It is diceless, but rather than re-hashing the tired 'spend luck/fate/destinty/hero points to boost trait ratings' approach I decided that you gain bonuses by swearing oaths, curses, or calling upon gods in-character. If you live in a thin-walled apartment, this is probably not a game for you ;)]

I *only* use instrumental pieces, be they classical, traditional/ethnic, folk, metal, electronic, experimental or other. This is because I personally find lyrics to be too distracting, too demanding of one's focus (not solely on my own behalf, either.)

For most campaigns, most of the time, I choose to use no music at all.

I dig the Midnight Syndicate D&D soundtrack. Ocassionally I use the Eberron Sharn soundtrack, but I am not as fond of it. Other than that, I occasionally throw in things like Enya (esp. "Cursum Perficio") and Holst's "The Planets" (esp. "Mars").

I'm a big fan of Bach organ music.

I've also had great success using soundtracks from video games. I extracted the audio from Doom 3 and actually found a site that had all the music and soundscapes from the Thief video games. Both are amazing.

Almost anything on hand ;)

Seriously, our group prefers instrumental stuff, but we also play vocal tracks when the vocals are in a language we don't actively speak (this means, at the moment, no English, French, or Mandarin Chinese). Lots of classical, some jazz, some soundtracks, bunch of "worldbeat" stuff, Fanfare for the Common Man as our "theme music"; the rest is pretty open.

Oh, and the GM Hold Music once a session ;)

The ONLY problem with playing Manowar during sessions is you may inspire the true among the group to Hail & Kill on the poseurs of the group. Next thing you know someone is told to Leave the Hall and the group is fractured...if the poseurs weren't dealt with more harshly.
