General - Knights - Likes and Dislikes?
Quick question for you all concerning D&D 3.5. Be as specific or non specific as you like.

What do you like, and dislike about the Knight class of 3.5E?

In general I like everything about the knight.

The code is clean and easily understood, the abilities are interesting.

The one change I would make is change the aggro ability to (sp) so people stop complaining about it:)

I'm playing a Knight in a pbp game. My first impression with the Knight was negative, but I decided to give it a try anyway.

The few things I dislike is the Shield Block "Dodge" mechanic he gets, I dislike Dodge as well actually. I just don't think its worth tracking and think it should just be a bonus to AC.

The other thing I didn't like, was that, with Bulwark of Defence, the area around the knight is rough terrain for those who started the round threatened by the knight. When I originally read it, I missed that part, and was disappointed to learn enemies can still just run past the knight.

Also, I think his higher level abilities need more... power? Loyalty beyond death is a little underwhelming for something you have to wait till 20th to get. Impetuous Endurance is neat, but hardly something to jump up and down about. Rolling a 1 is statistically rare, and generally speaking from the campaigns I've been in, the ability would be irrevalent, as I'd fail anyway.

I do enjoy his Test of Mettle ability. Also, I like how violating his "code" isn't some game stopping event.

Overall, I'm enjoying playing the Knight. But, I forsee problems in the higher levels, where PrCs are more available, and the Knights class features are less appealing.

Hope that helps.

I haven't seen one in play yet, but the parts that read well to me are:

-good Will save: neat idea for a melee combatant.
-Code of Conduct: I like how it's spelled out. Yay!
-Bulwark of Defense + Vigilant Defender: I like the battlefield control this gives the knight.
-Armor Mastery: Yay! Not a slowpoke!

Overall, I enjoy the new texture that the knight's abilities put on the game.

I dislike it. It's redundant with the fighter and I have a hard time justifying its challenge abilities, which presume a world of chivalry and honor; and also assumes people are dumb enough to ignore the fireball-tossing wizard in order to fight a man in armor.

The whole "I am the champion, come out and fight me!" only works in a world in which a man in plate armor is the champion and the toughest thing on the field.

The +X AC versus one opponent is painful to administer. I would prefer a general AC bonus.

Impetuous Endurance is good.

Armor mastery is ok.

Challenge abilities are ok.

I'd really prefer that all of these abilities were feats, and I could play a fighter and just pick the feats that I'd want.

Difficult terrain? I'm not sure what/how/why this is in there. To stop people from tumbling around the Knight?

It allows the knight to act in a protector role. Once he's engaged an enemy, its very hard for them to go and hurt someone else. They can't charge or run away from you, and they move at half speed, so a normal 30 foot speed person can only get 30 feet away from you in a round.

It also prevents 5 foot steps, which makes you a nice mage killer!!
