Burlew has got our number.

The moral of the comic, I guess, is that it's good to be a divine caster, in general.

If this comic and the last one had been combined, it would have formed a super-comic with hilarity. Well at least one of the jokes in the last comic made sense.

I liked the comments about Roy's eyes :)

Totally.

So now people can stop complaining about that spell not being able to do what it did. It was Drunken Thor; can't argue with THAT.

Instead, people will argue that this is "proof" that Rich lurks on messageboards hoping people will point out mistakes, so he can "artificially" create them.

It will not occur to these people that Rich is, in addition to being a cartoonist, a professional game writer, and no doubt knew from the beginning what he was doing with control weather, because that would rob them of a chance to feel superior.

(No, I'm not bitter about the recent surge in arguments on ENWorld, why do you ask? ;))

I called it in the last thread, and the behavior is not new to this particular strip, so I don't see why we should assume he planned it. It's also known that he doesn't draw far ahead, and also that he has changed stuff in previous comics because folks correctly guessed his plotpoint. So, it's entirely possible that he did read the comments and throw in the "explanation" that isn't.

I liked the hammer to the face, "dwarven witticism" as it were. :)
I don't follow all the threads about what classes they all have, but I figured Durkon for mostly Cleric, if not all. Making him a primary caster too. Still, dwarf vs bear should be fun.

Bitterness aside ... (I hope I have not been the cause of it!)

I don't personally see anything wrong with lurking. Any good author knows his audience - and ENWorlders make their support of the comic rather obvious. I should think it silly if Rich doesn't lurk here andoccasionally insert items into his story based on the reactions of various website threads.

Now, having said that - I am assuming that given the storyline, the wit, the general plot, and did I mention the wit .... that Rich also knows what he is doing. Whether this latest comment was a lurk or an event planned several months back - I say good show, Rich!

Here here - classic strip.

But, what is the shapeshifted creature? Dire Squirrel?

Given that he works in the industry, why not simply assume that the whole thing was a setup to the "explanation"? In a strip based at least in part around poking fun of the rules, that seems a much more likely scenario than the constant "backtracking" you suggest.

It could be either way, or something in between, no way to know. I certainly don't make the claim to "feel superior" or anything, but because this type of thing irks me. I'd rather post my criticism in the hopes that what irritates me changes, rather than simply declare that the mans a genius for setting up an error so he could explain it.

So yeah, if the first 3 panels of this strip had been the last three panels of the last strip, then I'd say it was funny. Since it's not, it looks like it's a reaction to the posts, rather than an original plan.
