Magic Point System
Note: the Priest, Mystic, Arcanist and Mage classes were added. If these classes are not used the druid uses the wizard chart and the cleric uses the priest chart.
Magic Points
All casters get a number of magic points depending on their caster level plus the caster's key stat bonus. This makes up their available magic points. Casters have three positions their magic points can be in. When a caster casts a spell they draw magic points equal to the spell's level from their available magic points and place them in one of to positions. Magic points used to power instantaneous become spent magic points and non-instantaneous spells become used magic points for . Spells are all cast at the caster’s caster level.
Available Magic Points
Spell points that are available magic points can be used to cast spells.
Spent Magic Points
Spell points that are spent magic points can only be recovered.
Used Magic Points
Spell points that are used magic points are those that are tied up maintaining spells with durations. These magic points cannot be recovered while being used. When a maintained spell’s effects end, the used magic points become spent magic points.
Negative Caster Levels
Every negative caster level that a caster has lowers their caster level by 1. This affects their magic points and the maximum number of magic points spent at once charts. If a caster lowers their caster level to zero with negative caster levels, he or she becomes unconscious.
Magic Point Recovery
Magic point recovery makes spent magic points become available magic points. Casters recover all of their magic points after five minutes of uninterrupted time to do their recovery method. They cannot take any other actions while recovering and they gain 1 negative caster level during the process. Divine casters pray and plea with their deity to get their power back, arcane casters draw back their magical energies from around them, innate casters focus their inner strength and psionic casters meditate and rebuild their mental wills.
Draining Spells
Whenever a caster casts a spell that the DM sees as problematic, it takes something out of the caster for the day to do it. To show this, the caster gets a negative caster level, depending on the spell level of the draining spell.
Recovering Negative Caster Levels
It takes 8 hours of rest to get rid of all negative caster level. Restoration spell removes a negative caster levels as if it were a negative level.
Metamagic Feats
Casters ready metamagic feats as normal. A +1 level metamagic feat on a 1st level spell makes it a 2nd level spell and therefore costs 2 spell points to use.
