Recommended sources for SF minis

buzz

Adventurer
I'm starting up a Star HERO campaign pretty soon and want some cool SF minis to use, both for characters and possibly starships. I'm hoping to tap ENWorld's collective mini-fu and find out some good sources for metal or pre-painted minis, or even quality counters. Have any companies or retailers to recommend?

The campaign is in the classic Traveller/Firely mode; merchants and scoundrels. Major races include liberally ripped-off Kzin, reptile men, "greys," humans, and a host of other miscellaneous races.

FYI, I've toyed with the idea of using some Star Wars minis, and am curious about the SF line coming up from Rackham.

Thanks for any help.

P.S., I was also planning to pick up one of the "SF blue" Chessex battlemats, but if there are other SF-flavored mats/boards you'd like to recommend, please do so.

I know to a few UK online stores... which may not be of much help... but I'll mention them anyway in case you see something that takes your fancy, and turns out to be worth tracking down in the US.

em4 miniatures (crystal caste in the US?) has some pre-painted minis:

and some fairly cheap plastics:

Griffin miniatures has a selection of 'greys':

Anyway... that probably didn't help much... but there might be something of interest.

I can say, with no fear of being unbiased, that if you like paper figures you can do a lot worse than the Stand-Ins paper figures. I'm the producer, so obviously I think they're lovely.

You get 125 different figures, all presented with separate front and back art, and all presented in both black and white and full color. The total cost is $12, you support En World when you buy through their affiliate, and the product has an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5.

End shameless self-promotion.

West Wind is often neglected, but offers a wide variety of weirdness for SF/Super gaming.
Gothic horror/Bad moon over Memphis -category is my long time favourite. There are excellent SF/Super miniatures in both Road Kill and Superfigs category - depending on what kind of campaign you are running of course.

Another excellent source is the Street Violence and 2000AD ranges of Wargames Foundry found at: http://www.wargamesfoundry.com/main.asp
