Knife fighter

Kheti sa-Menik

First Post
I'm writing a background for a new character.
I need some help with the best mechanics.

10th level, any race from PHB.
I'd like to build a knife fighter, both thrown and melee.
Maybe ranger or rogue based.
There's a knife melee PrC and a throwing knife specialist PrC which both look nifty.
Stats: 15, 14, 13, 13, 9, 9

Complete books are usable as is PHB 2.

Anyone suggest any ideas?

Halfling Rog 3/Ftr 2/Invisible Blade 5

Stats after racial mods:

Str 7
Dex 17 (+1 lvl)
Con 13 (+1 lvl)
Int 14
Wis 9
Cha 13

This build requires heavily on triggering your sneak attack for damage. Invisible Blade (CW) provides a great avenue with Uncanny Feint. Just be sure to keep your Bluff skill maxed out. Also, try and either have the party Mage drop a Fox's Cunning on you or grab a headband of Int to maximize the effectiveness of your Unfettered Defense ability.

You can progress your next 5 levels in the Master Thrower PrC (CW) if you really dig the ranged combat route. Otherwise, grab Improved Initiative with one of your open feat slots and finish off the build with Nightsong Enforcer (CAdv)

Either way...just my 2 cp

In my opinion, WotC needs to make a set of gloves that temporarily imbue thrown weapons with magical bonuses. Otherwise it gets costly if you start throwing your magic weapons and can't get them back.

As much as people poo-poo the class, a few levels of Swashbuckler will let you add your Int bonus to damage (Insightful Strike), and can really add to the effectiveness of this sort of build.

INT bonus actually...

I don't think people say that the class as a whole sucks, just levels 4 through 20. ^_^ As you point out, the level 3 ability is quite nice, and 3 levels of swashbuckler is a good dip for many lightly armored fighting builds.

No vote for the whisperknife class from Races of the Wild?

I'd go Swash 3/Rogue 3/Mast Thrower 5/Whisperknife 9

Use the halfling rogue substitution levels.

Consider the combo of Palm Throw, Two With One Blow, Weak Spot, and poison use.
