Wildspace - your experiences?

Eleventh thread of a series on the younger classic Dungeons & Dragons adventure modules. It is interesting to see how everyone's experiences compared and differed.

Synopsis: The first adventure for the Spelljammer setting. The heroes are asked to lend aid against a dreadful menace that threatens their kingdom. Their patron, however, fails to mention that the threat in question is a moon-sized beholder battlestation, that he is in fact himself a crazed beholder seeking to take control of it, and that an entire armada of equally crazed beholders are en route to stop him. The adventure takes the PCs far from their homeworld and into the depths of the battlestation itself for a series of confrontations on an unprecedented scale.

Did you Play or DM this adventure (or both, as some did)? What were your experiences? Did you complete it? What were the highlights for your group?

(With thanks and a tip of the hat to Quasqueton for his ground-breaking series of classic adventure discussions.)

Hi,

I DM'ed the adventure and it was great fun. I still have the little sketches I drew of the various murals inside the Hive. I meant to run it as a one off but ended up moving my FR campaign wholly into space. While other Spelljammer adventures were enjoyable*, this was the first and best.

Cheers

Richard

* except Crystal Spheres which was piss-poor

I'm positive we played this one at some point, but I know we never got all that far through it. I remember ending up on a Spelljammer ship that was crewed by beholders and golems, and engaging in a *massive* fight. My halfling thief turned the tide by targeting the beholders with a ballista.

We never completed that quest, but we did end up keeping the Spelljammer. It's still sitting there on my character sheet should I ever bring that guy out of retirement.
