Witch Hunter: the Invisible World

"See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction." Deuteronomy 30:15

Since the Serpent first crept into Adam’s garden, evil has always been with us. Wherever Man has traveled, he has found spirits, daemons, monsters, and all manner of enemies to both his mortal flesh and his immortal soul. These creatures come in many guises, and oft go unseen by the very common people who they most endanger – unseen, at least, until it is too late to escape their clutches. Let us thank God, then, that for almost as long as these evils have plagued mankind, there have been men and women with the faith and courage to fight them, to keep evil at bay so that the good men and women of the world may carry on with their lives, all unaware of the doom which awaits them should the vigilance of their guardians ever waver.

Such a duty is one that few would choose willingly, particularly if they understood the nature of their foes. And indeed, when those foes are invisible to the untutored eye, even a willing guardian would never know that his efforts were needed. But those precious few, given sight of the Adversary, and the will to face them, are the Witch-Hunters. Those rare persons, men and women, Christian, Jew or otherwise live a hard life. A life with no home but one’s boots, no kitchen but a fire-pit, and never the same bed from one week to the next is not one that any of us would choose freely. This is the burden of the Witch-Hunter, and God gives such burdens only to those who can bear them. If the shepherd labors not to defend the sheep, the sheep will die and the shepherd will starve. How much more important, then, are the men over whom you, the Witch-Hunter, stand as the shepherd?

Looks pretty. What's the system?

Witch Hunter runs on our new PCI home system (which we'll have to come up with a better name for it than that). Developed primarily by Rob Schwalb, it’s a dice pool/# of successes type of system that does not get so bogged down with minutiae that it gets in the way of telling a great story.

Witch Hunter is all about the Heroes doing Heroic feats, so it also incorporates a Cinematic style that will showcase that facet of the game.

All in all, it’s a fast paced, fun system that is simple to learn and understand, yet robust enough to handle just about every and any situation that may come up in play.

We will have a Quick Start rule download available as we get closer to the release date.

Not only was Witch Hunter developed with an eye towards a cinematic adventure feel, the system is intended for use in future roleplaying game releases.

That's a great cover. I look forward to finding out more about the game.

Thanks!

We'll be posting updates to our website covering different aspects of the game as Origins (July 5th) rolls closer. However, I can tell you that besides a clean and simple system to run an thrilling horror/adventure scenario, Witch Hunter also features a unique (as least to my knowledge) method of creating horrors for your players that won't have them pifft'ing when they see a werewolf and pull out some silver. In Witch Hunter, there is no such thing as a sure thing and that silver may do no more than give that slavering Werewolf a bad rash.

Witch Hunter features an exciting alternate history milieu based on our 1689 but with a few slight twists. For example, in a world where magic, demons and hexes abound, a Court Magi is indispensable for the protection of the ruling class. But the Ordeal through which they must pass to convince the Church that their power is not derived from the Great Adversary is grueling and torturous, leaving its mark upon their body and psyche.

As I said, more details will be forthcoming such as the different Witch Hunter Orders, Sorcery rules, Minions shorthand mechanics and much more.

If you're attending Origins, we have a few introductory adventures running there. Stop by, test drive our system and explore the richness and depth of the campaign.

If you enjoy playing in a world-wide, "living" campaign, PCI is fully supporting Witch Hunter with Witch Hunter: Dark Providence, featuring scenarios from some of the best horror/adventure writers in the industry.

I hope this answers your question and that you'll join us for the debut of Witch Hunter: The Invisible World!

In some ways, this reminds me of movies like the Warlock series, and "Sleepy Hollow" (I think that's the name of it) with Christina Ricci. I also sense a bit of the Angel Television series, in that the witch hunter concept reminds me of Angels old nemesis from the 1700's. Damned if I forget his name.

Now, heh. If you don't like those movies (and television series) I'm sorry if I offended you. I actually mean it as a compliment.

I'll take it as the compliment it was intended. ;-)

Actually, Sleepy Hollow was the inspiration for Witch Hunter as the people who were to form a part of PCI sat around watching it on DVD. And, although I did see Warlock years ago, it’s very, very fuzzy in my memory. The only part I remember is the "hero" sticking iron nails in the Warlock's footprints to stop him from running and in that sense, it is indeed like Witch Hunter (or vice-versa).

Honestly, if I watched 3 episodes of Buffy or Angel, it's too many (I know, I know...sacrilege!) so I have no idea about who you’re referring to.

Hopefully, you'll find Witch Hunter as evocative and entertaining as you found those TV shows and movies.

Oh and I would be remiss if I failed to mention Brotherhood of the Wolf as another movie that inspired us.

Thanks for the interest!!!
