Collaborative Setting: Faeries

Months back, I remember ENWorld has a number of interesting "Collaborative Setting" threads that worked out quite well, creating some fascinating gems (anyone remember the half-orc nobility setting?)... and I thought it might be interesting to try this again. The way it works is this: each post, someone adds a new detailing fact to the setting. This can include NPCs, locations, bits of culture, how the races get along, etc etc etc. One addition per post, and no double posting. No contradicting earlier posts, but clarifying and detailing is fine.

This setting will start with this core concept: a setting in which fae are a major element

Lets see what we can come up with from there!

The fae are manifestations of the world who influence every aspect of life. Mortals acknowledge the influence of the Fae but are largely oblivious to it happening until it affects them

The Fae divide mortals (ie lesser humanoids) into four categories
1. Jacks - Mortal Champions chosen by the fae to do great deeds
2. Wits - Mortals of great talent, granted a 'boon' by the fae
3. Clods - Mortals who have become enraptured by the Fae and thus lost connection with reality
4. Duns - the vast majority of mundane mortals who are oblivious to the fae

While the Fae are used to control history through the deeds of the Jacks, some individually powerful Duns have formed considerable power blcoks and may have become aware of the meddlings of the Fae

Savrael

Savrael is a tree that is quite rare and is the bane to the fae. Forging items from its wood and leaves helps to damage them physically as well as hindering the use of the their innate magical abilities.

Goblinoids

If this isn't quite going where you like feel free to let me know and I can change it.

Goblinoids have for millenia warred against the fae in their incursion to the mortal realms and are the keepers and enforcers of an elder pact which prevented the fae's return and influence in the mortal realms. The fae have broken this pact and the seals which helped to enforce it and the goblinoids are now scrambling to stem the faes advances and influence into the mortal realm.

The leaders of the Fae hold court twice a month, under the new and full moons to draft Jacks for the most important or foolhardy quests.

On the full moons, the quests undertaken are prophesized to be great and noble quests full of honor and glory.
On the new moons, the quests undertaken are prophesized to be fools errands, suicidal missions, Kobayashi Maru style missions, or other non-glorious or doomed quests.

No, this sort of thing really drives these settings. I like!

Humans, as a general rule, don't believe in the existence of faeries, even when being drafted into some insane quest or another. And yet their lands are the only places where the Savreal trees grow.

Lycanthropes (Lycans)

Lycanthropes, whose worship and tendencies are tied to the moon as well, are the misfortunate red-headed half-elven step-children of the fae's mechinations. The Lycans are blamed for much of the fae caused problems and have also been recruited by the goblinoids to combat the fae.
