Wooden Ships and Undead Men: The Heart of Davey Jones

At Ocean’s Edge, five squadrons from the Worlds’ great seapowers vie for the key to the true power of the sea: the Heart of Davey Jones.
With the Heart of Davey Jones in your palm, your fleet can command the mythical Flying Dutchman and the terrible Kraken. All that stands between you and absolute dominion over the oceans of the world are Jack Sparrow, the Maelstrom… and four other squadrons who want the same thing – and will kill to seize the Heart of Davey Jones to claim it for their own.

Wooden Ships and Undead Men: The Heart of Davey Jones is a 5 player tournament scenario for Avalon Hill’s classic game of naval warfare in the Age of Sail: Wooden Ships & Iron Men. Using the advanced rules from the original game, supplemented with a few updated scenario rules incorporating the fantastic milieu depicted in Pirates of the Caribbean, this tournament competition promises the nostalgia of a classic wargame and crosses it with an updated theme. The game will be played on an oversized ocean chart using ship miniatures from Wizkids Pirates of the Spanish Main to represent each of the ships in your squadron.

Each of the five players will command a squadron from the English, French, Spanish, American, and Pirate navies. The sixth naval force at Ocean’s Edge, the mysterious Cursed, remains under the control of the game’s referee until the Heart of Davey Jones is seized.

Complete rules, squadron Orders of Battle and your navy’s individual Ship Display Charts will be provided to all players a month in advance of the game.

Some familiarity with the original Wooden Ships & Iron Men is preferred, although not essential if you take the time to familiarize yourself with the rules beforehand.

Time Slot: Thursday August 16, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m..

Looks like I may have to vary the time oif the session given the response...

Or it may simply be that, being ENWorld with a preponderance of RPG enthusiasts., there are no takers here for an event of this sort.

I'll let it got for a few days, and then troll BoardGameGeek to drum up interest.

1" transparent hexes was the plan, over top an ocean chart.

However, I'm going to have to run this as a pick up game in the evening. It turns out I will not be attending Gencon this year as an attendee, as CD Projeckt has hired our company to work Atari's booth in the exhibit hall for the whole convention.

I'll be showing off CD Projeckt's The Witcher.

As a consequence, my gaming will be in the late evenings for most of the con in the board game ballroom. Look for me there if you can - or flag me down at Atari's booth (I'll be wearing an ENWorld badge too) and see if we can work something out.

I would LOVE to find a group of six players for Twilight Imperium or FFG's Game of Thrones (using the Clash of Kings exp) as well. I'll bring a full bevy of games - my Pirates otSM: Carribean Gold game mod, WSIM, BattleLore, Tide of Iron, Fighting Sail, Close Action , Marvel Heroes and a few others. I hope to get a game of Operation:Tanhauser in as well

I do plan to get my boardgaming fix in during the con. I get to play RPGs at home - but never enough boardgaming &minis play for my liking...
