Have you read the entry for Heward's Mystical Organ in the Book of Artifacts?
One of the options is that it can only be destroyed by mice.
The players couldn't understand why the organ was infested by talking mice who were trying to destroy it. The mice coudn't remember either. They'd been at it for centuries.
Because of all the damage the Organ had sustained, it's powers were triggered at random.
I had one of the powers of the Organ be to turn a random person within normal earshot into a mouse.
Then they understood.
