vacuum quasielemental

Devon

First Post
Hi, folks,

Another of the negative quasielementals. Is this too powerful? Is the power offset by its vulnerability to normal atmosphere? Should I just remove that vulnerability and make it less powerful overall?

Your thoughts are welcome,

- Devon

Vacuum elementals come from the quasi-elemental plane of Vacuum, the border between the planes of Air and Negative Energy. They are invisible, floating shapes of force, roughly humanoid in appearance, although their form is very mutable. They are deliberate and plodding in their movements. Vacuum elementals are aloof and uncommunicative.

Vacuum elementals speak Auran.

Combat:
Vacuum elementals attack by buffeting opponents with blasts of force. Although they are invisible, their presence is indicated by rippling distortions in the air.

Force pull (Ex): At will, as a movement action, a vacuum elemental can pull objects and creatures towards itself. The vacuum elemental rolls opposed Strength checks simultaneously against every item in a radius of 10 feet per age category of the elemental -- unattended objects automatically fail unless they are too heavy for the elemental to lift. Creatures failing the Strength check are pulled 10 feet closer to the elemental.

Vacuum Elemental Sizes
Elemental Weight
Small 1 lb.
Medium 2 lb.
Large 4 lb.
Huge 8 lb.
Greater 10 lb.
Elder 12 lb.

Natural invisibility (Ex): A vacuum elemental is, by its nature, completely invisible, even when it attacks. Spells and abilities which detect invisible creatures reveal the vacuum elemental to be a transparent, fluid mass of force energy pulling towards its center. This ability is not subject to the invisibility purge spell.

Immunities: Immune to cold, sonic, vacuum, and negative energy attacks.

edited to remove its atmospheric vulnerability - feat selection changed, immunities altered, special attacks tuned

Yeah, the vulnerability is a holdover from the vacuum section of the 2e MotP.

There are a lot of little immunities and vulnerabilities in the old 2e MotP, and I wonder how closely I should follow them.

P.S. You think special abilities are hard to create for the half-paraelementals? Salt and Vacuum, buddy -- those are the will-breakers. :)

I've removed the atmospheric vulnerability, as well as the cold subtype and the chilling touch (I found out that vacuum elementals aren't really supposed to be very cold).

I'm not sure if I went overboard on its immunities.

I've made the suggested changes, as well as modifications to its feat selection.

I'm somewhat stymied now -- I'm wondering if its main attack should be to suck people and objects into the plane of Vacuum, or if it should just be a floating mass of no atmosphere?

I think the slam attacks will suffice, 'cause let's face it, it's naturally invisible, which gives every attack against it a 50% miss chance, and that's if you know it's there... :D
