First off congratulations to the nominees! I hope my GenCon schedule will allow me to attend the awards.

Secondly, I have been thinking about the issue Pirate Cat brought up in his post and I think next year we'll participate.

And no I don't think we should be given some separate awards because what is the point of that? "congratulations to D&D for the best D&D book!" horrah :\

I know there are other quality products out there and I personally would really like to see how we fair against the other publishers. Based on how we did (or didn't do at Origins) it would be a good experience for the product line and may not be clean sweep like some people might suggest.

What do you guys think should WOTC stay out or participate?

Certainly, they should participate. While WotC is the big kid on the block and have a larger budget, I feel other publishers can compete with them in terms of quality and innovation.

The one thing is that the ENnies do provide some buzz about products that might not have as much as they should. WotC products don't usually suffer from that, but even being nominated likely draws attention to lesser known products.

Any publisher who thinks they have quality products should participate in quality-based awards. That's the long and short of it.

And WotC doesn't win everything as we know, even when the awards were d20-only, WotC didn't get nominated in every category, and didn't win in every category they were nominated in.

If WotC is involved I might recognize enough of the nominees to have a rational vote (and so cast a ballot for the first time in years), so I'd say yes.

Without reservation, I think WotC should participate. To be honest, the only downside I see is that the Judges' stack to read in the allotted time will increase yet again. :) I second the notion that products like Ptolus and some of the Warhammer stuff coming out would be worthy competition for WotC's lines and may not only give third-parties more recognition ("THAT beat a WotC product? What game is that for?") but would give WotC yet another gauge of what dedicated gamers want to see.

I voted yes, and I certainly don't think they'll win every time. What I do NOT want to see is the couple years where the catagories were constructed in such a way to restrict WotC from competing. (Such as "best OGL accessory" then saying D&D isn't OGL.)

I think that the voting crowd isn't biased towards WotC, probably against truthfully, and I think the competition will be better for having the full spread of products.
