Crystal Ram: psiforged Crimson Pugilist (looking for Feedback)

JiCi

First Post
Hey guys,

I've been building around a new character for an upcoming Eberron game and I came up with a psiforged Crimson Pugilist with the Martial template. I'm looking for feedback here.

Blood Fury (Ex) Twice per day, Crystal Ram can enter a blood fury that last for 6 rounds. The following changes are in effect as long as he is in the throes of blood fury:

Grapple +30
Atk Options face rake (DC 25), gut punch (DC 25), rend 4d6+25
Abilities Str 30, Dex 24
Skills Climb +33

This is otherwise the same as a barbarian’s rage in terms of skill and feat restrictions.
(Note: At the end of the blood fury, Crystal Ram would be fatigued for the duration of the encounter, but as a warforged, he is immune to fatigue)
Brutal Mien (Ex) When using the Intimidate skill to demoralize an opponent, Crystal Ram may add his class level (+5) to the opposed roll, and if successful, the foe is shaken for 5 rounds.
Face Rake (Ex) Crystal Ram can rake his battlefists over a target’s face, potentially blinding him. To use face rake, Crystal Ram must establish a hold upon his opponent via the grappling rules. Then, on the following round, he can rake his opponent’s face with a successful grapple check. A creature struck with face rake suffers normal spiked gauntlet damage and must make a Fortitude saving throw (DC 24) or be blinded for 1d3 rounds. The duration of blindness stacks for multiple face rakes. The save is Strength-based.
Fighter Feat Advancement Crystal Ram is treated as a fighter of 3 levels higher for the purpose of which feats he has access to.
Gut punch (Ex) As a standard action, Crystal Ram can make a single melee attack with his battlefist to strike his foe in the abdomen or another delicate area. This attack inflicts normal damage and forces the target to make a Fortitude saving throw (DC 24) or be sickened for 5 rounds. Gut punch has no effect on creatures immune to critical hits or sneak attack damage. The save is Strength-based.
Rend (Ex) Crystal Ram can inflict terrible, ripping wounds upon an opponent with his spiked gauntlets. He may only use rend when fighting with a battlefist on each hand and using the full attack action. If Crystal Ram strikes an opponent with both spiked gauntlets in the same round, he automatically deals an additional 4d6+22 points of damage. Crystal Ram may only use rend once in a given combat round.
Improved Critical (Ex) Crystal Ram is considered to have the Improved Critical feat for any simple of martial weapon it wields. This ability does not stack with the actual Improved Critical feat or with the keen weapon special ability.
Augmented Critical (Ex) Crystal Ram adds 1 to the critical multiplier of any simple or martial weapon it wields.
Keen Strike (Su) Four times per day, as a free action, Crystal Ram can make a keen strike against any creature it can reach with a melee attack. He makes a normal melee attack, and if successful, automatically threatens a critical hit, but he must still roll to confirm the critical hit as normal.
Enfeebling Strike (Su) If Crystal Ram scores a critical hit upon an opponent, either naturally or with the keen strike ability, he also inflicts 9 point of temporary Strength damage.
Armor Optimization (Ex) Crystal Ram instinctively knows the best way to wear armor, and as such, reduces the armor check penalty of any armor worn by -2. In addition, medium and heavy armor provide a greater armor bonus when worn by him. The armor bonus of any medium armor worn by Crystal Ram increases by +1, while the armor bonus for any heavy armor worn increases by +2. (Note: As a warforged, Crystal Ram cannot wear armor, but this bonus may apply to the various body feats.)
Improved Armor Optimization (Ex) Crystal Ram treats all armor as one category lighter than it actually is. (Note: As a warforged, Crystal Ram cannot wear armor, but this bonus may apply to the various body feats.)
Martial Proficiency (Ex) Crystal Ram is automatically proficient with all simple and martial weapons, with all types of armor, and with all types of shields.
Martial Focus (Ex) Crystal Ram gains a permanent +1 bonus to hit and damage with all simple and martial weapons. This bonus stacks with those gained from the Weapon Focus and Weapon Specialization group of feats.

Any opinions ?

... or at least tell what's wrong with it ?

So he can hit numerous times, but at least it's by the rules.

What is the Martial Template from?

Crimson Pugilist?

Feats: He could be improved here. You're missing Second Slam (Races of Eberron) and Robilar's Gambit (PHB2), for example.

Both are from Blackdirge Publishing, available at your ENWorld download shop.

The reason I didn't pick Second Slam is because on Beast Strike, which allows me to add claw or slam damage to an unarmed strike. Since it's an option to attack with 2 unarmed strikes, I drop the second slam for more attacks.

I'm not a fan of Robilar's Gambit; it's better for a reach weapon wielder or a Large creature with Large and In Charge. Not only you can attack your foes form a distance, but you keep them at bay, without letting them gaining the benefits.

Hope that helps.

Damn, that dude is burly as hell. I don't think I could offer any advice on how to make him tougher, but it's neat to see both template and prestige class taken in directions I had never considered.

I can't wait to see what you do with the rougish template. :D

I have a motto: "There's no such thing as munchkin; just players who can't read."

I could have added the Aberrant Limbs (+1 CR / +2 LA) trait from DMG 2, replaced TWF by MultiWeapon Fighting, thus tripling the number of attacks from his off-hand.

I could have also added the Quickling template from the Advanced Bestiary (+1 CR / +5 LA), which grants an extra melee attack if all attacks are made with the Dexterity modifier.

I could have also added the Spellpowered (Body outside Body) template (+1 CR / +3 LA) from the Book of Template 3.5 Deluxe, which could easily multiply the number of attacks... as long as you substract 1 attack, +5 to attack and to damage and 1d6/2d10 fire damage per Battlefist (no magic item is duplicated via this spell)

Ok, I'll stop there for templates and stuff. However, if Crystal Ram advances in epic levels, he can take Perfect Two-Weapon Fighting and Weapon Supremacy (unarmed strike).

Sure, the Time Stands Still/Raging Mangoose is tempting, but neither the swordsage or the warblade can grant me that many feats. Yet, at epic levels, Martial Study (Mountain Tombstone Strike) could be an option.

Oh BTW Blackdirge, at what frequency do you publish new stuff, as a roughly approximation ? Once per week, once per 2 weeks, once per month ? Why ? because your books rock, and I can't wait for the next ones.

Thanks!

I put out between 4 and 6 new products a month. Although, it will probably be closer to 4 until May while we gear up for 4E.

As with the others, the AC is a bit low, and the lack of flight or other movement modes is a very bad thing in the territory of level 20.
