So, the general name poll has been running for a while now, and so far Marshal is winning over all the other options, even Warlord, by a significant margin. It looks like, as far as ENworld polling is concerned, Marshal is the strongest alternative to Warlord we've got. So let's see what happens when we clear the also-rans off the board.

No "other" votes for this poll. If you absolutely can't stand either name, then don't vote.

Even if every 3E player doesn't know the class -- I think the Miniatures Handbook was a bad concept; too many rules for the DDM game, and not enough to sell most D&D players on it -- the Marshal is almost certainly the core of the new Warlord class. Just leave the name as-is.

I haven't voted yet, as I'm not sure I know where I stand.
On one hand, I started the thread on letting Warlord be Warlord.
On the other, it still doesn't sit totally well.

I am coming around to Marshal. I think I could even support it.
Really, the only two complaints I have with Marshal are:
1) It's not a common archetype."What's a Marshal?' says the newb? But you know what, they will have to ask that about every class to be able to understand each in D&D terms. Having stated that, this may actually further the Marshal's cause as it doesn't have any modern connotations to overcome.
2) Marshal vs. Martial power source homophones. But again, the context should prevent confusion, AND the Marshal is a Martial Leader, so I'm ready to call that a non-issue.

Edit: after another night's thought, I'll stick with Warlord. Marshal will work fine, but at the end of the day, Ithink it'll be more fun/attractive to play a Warlord than play a Marshal.

I prefer marshal, just because it doesn't sound as "10th level", and also because it doesn't conjure images of an orc sitting on a throne made of skulls, surrounded by a horde of thousands.

I still voted warlord. Marshal sounds too "goody-two-shoes". There are evil warlords out there, but evil marshals?
Real-world politics rules prevent me from elaborating, but there are certainly some very prominent evil marshals in world history.
