Blood Road: New Dungeon Article

Blood Road has just appeared on D&D Insider. A few things that I think are 4e tidbits:

The characters all have "Social Encounter" advice given.

Mention of History, Religion and Streetwise checks, as well as Diplomacy and Intimidate.

"Vampire lords are elite creatures that often have powers similar to those of a heroic individual."

"A successful Religion check can tell PCs more about vampires, as detailed in the Vampire entry of the Monster Manual," also confirms that their habit of including explicit knowledge entries in recent Monster Manuals will carry over to 4E.

It also sounds as if Vampire Lords (presumably a template, like Death Knight) gain some leader-ish abilities, given that, "Once the vampire lord is down, many of its effects and powers will end, and you can then mop up its lackeys without much trouble."

Hmm, the Insight skill, interesting. It has obviously eaten Sense Motive, but if it was just Snese Motive, it wouldn't need a new name. But what would be rolled in with Sense Motive? I'm not certain.

Edit: Urg, beaten to being the first to mention it by just a few seconds.

I doubt Vampire Lords are a template. I suspect they'll be one of several vampire types in MM1, allowing several different levels of characters to fight vampires.

Actually, even if it is just Sense Motive at the moment, the new skill name (1) is better; (2) allows for more flexibility if they later want to add more uses to it.

I like it.

Wow, I am liking the social encounter information. It seems it might be possible to complete that adventure there without a single combat encounter if the PCs were clever enough, it seems DND is getting back to some of the 2e (for me) mix of roleplaying and combat.

It seems that the MM will have information on what a religion check will give the PCs

Interesting column title too: "Roll vs Role" :p

I personally think it would have been better as "Roll AND Role", because they aren't opposed styles of gaming, right? ;)

Changing Knowledge (Local) to Streetwise, does give it a wider concept to the skill. As Knowledge (Local) never made sense, and it implies you could do more than just know things with that skill.
