What Do We Know About Clerics?

I've just realised that I can't think of many details of the 4e Cleric, either from rumour, playtest or the previews.

Can anyone that has any solid information post it here so I can get an idea of how nifty (or not!) they might be in 4e?

Codzilla is quite dead. The 4e Cleric will be the beast healing the Core rules offer with the capabilties to provide combat support, but not combat dominence.

Ahem, having also gone to the 4e news page, I can clarify to say that does anyone have any more information any than this:

CLERIC
Fills the "Leader" role, along with the warlord.
Cleric mentioned creating a "surge of healing power" alongside a critical hit. This hints (yet unconfirmed) to mechanics similar to some Crusader maneuvers, from Tome of Battle.
From Wizards Presents: Races & Classes:
All classes will get some self-healing power (already known). Cleric enhance the self-healing capabilities of nearby allies.
Bigger spell will be rituals (raise the dead for example). Rituals are different from spells (as of how I do not know).
Summoning spells are removed along with alignment specific ones (at least for now).

I like Clerics, and I'm hoping to hear some more crunchy goodness about them soon!

From what some have already argued in other threads, we can safely say that there are a lot of people who still won't have any idea what a "cleric" is.

That's pretty much all we know so far. Wizards has been kinda mum on the cleric class itself, instead talking general stuff about gods and magic. I'd like to hear more about the new cleric, personally.

You hope. Wizards hasn't exactly impressed me with their understanding of what makes a combat dominant character.

Well I think they meant melee combat dominance, as in they won't be able to fight as well as or better then a fighter while still casting heal. I think that will be an easy enough goal for wizards to achieve.

There was this bit in the PC Roles article:

Unlike their 3e counterparts, every Leader class in the new edition is designed to provide their ally-benefits and healing powers without having to use so many of their own actions in the group-caretaker mode. A cleric who wants to spend all their actions selflessly will eventually be able to accomplish that, but a cleric who wants to mix it up in melee or fight from the back rank with holy words and holy symbol attacks won’t constantly be forced to put aside their damage-dealing intentions. A certain amount of healing flows from the Leader classes even when they opt to focus on slaying their enemies directly.

Someone (I can't remember who) suggested that the holy symbol and holy word attacks are the in-game terms for the cleric's per-encounter or per-day abilities. As long as what they do aren't called "spells" I'll be happy.

There was also a quote in one of the developer weblogs that clerics were very martial and they were adding more pacifist options.

There have been some quotes on non-combat options for clerics as well.

Which, in the context in which I saw them, leads me to believe there will be a talent tree for 'cloistered' clerics.
