George Lucas is claiming that a "Star Wars" convention has moved over to the dark side.

In a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in nothern California, LucasFilm says that Gen Con, a company that puts on gaming conventions, failed to uphold a contract to deliver proceeds from a "Star Wars" memorabilia auction to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

According to this complaint, Gen Con owes almost $1 million to the charity and to LucasArts for proceeds from an auction held at last May's Gen Con convention in Los Angeles. LucasFilm says it undertook expenses to advertise the auction to increase participation.

Just read the filing. Looks real.

A company like Gen Con should do it's very best to prevent anything like this from coming to court. The make-a-wish thing just really puts it over the top in terms of bad PR...

Ouch.

Oh, that's not good. $1 million being kept from sick kids does not make for good PR at all.

I guess they shouldn't have hired Hutt & Fett as their accounting firm.

The story at the link is deceptive. Gen Con is being sued for $500,00 for breaching an agreement. They are also being sued for $150,000 for the auction. The rest of the monay is interest.

Yep. And even those numbers may be a bit magical. But still, in Gen Con's position, this is a bad group to be sued _by_ and throwing the Make-a-wish foundation on top of it just sucks.

Had to do my last post as the boss walked in so I didn't get a chance to edit or complete the post. :heh: The first number should be $500,000. There is also a further $150,000 in the third claim for conversion. Still doesn't look good for Gen Con, but the linked blurb makes it sound like Gen Con owes $1 million to a charity.

Wow, I even missed the 4th claim for unjust enrichment for another $150,000. I hope Gen Con can get this settled out of court, and for a lot less than $950,000 plus interest LFL is after.
