Winterhaven is the new Keep on the Borderlands?

Looking at the May preview, it struck me that the map of Winterhaven looked familiar. I checked my copy of B2: Keep on the Borderlands and, sure enough, it bears an uncanny resemblance to the map of the Keep.

Looking at the scale, the Keep is about 25% larger, and area 21 on B2 is larger than H1, but the layout of the towers and gates is basically the same.

I'm curious as to whether the designers deliberately decided to pay homage to B2, based their design on the same Medieval style of castle, or whether it's a total coincidence.

The first, I'd guess. It's entirely too similar to be a coincidence.

Wasn't actually one of the first ideas coming up around the adventure to basically redo Keep on the Borderlands? (Not that I know what Keep on the Borderlands was all about, I don't think it is in my D&D experience bracket...)

Or was it just the DMG that was originally planned to have a familiar village statted up inside?

And the Keep on the Shadowfell is like a ruined...mouthouse...with cultists...with big plans

From what I saw in the preview, H1 is more like a mashup of Keep on the Borderlands and the Village of Hommlet.

Like I said in another thread. 4E feels retro.

lol!

If it is a deliberate homage to classic adventures, then that's pretty cool.

D&D4e is to Previous Editions
as
Battlestar Galactica is to the Original BSG

And that's a very, VERY, good thing. :D
