House Rule:
Players may choose to give their characters extra skills. the skills should be ones that aren't useful during combat, are not covered by skills in 4.0 and fit the character.
Characters get one skill point for every positive ability modifier they have. Skill points should be spent on skills based on the ability modifier you got it from.
For example a black smith who wants to be a painter (with Strength 14, and Wis 16) might have +2 Profession: Blacksmith (Strength), +2 Profession: Painter (Wisdom) and +1 Profession: Art Critic (Wisdom).
Skills benefit from ability bonuses.
Skills are not necessarily the same as in 3.x (for example not all professions are linked to Wisdom). Use your common sense.
I'm not sure how the skills will progress when levelling. Giving them the 1/2 level bonus seems a bit silly (killing bugbears does not teach you art) however I'm thinking of letting them spend their ability modifier in skill points again every other level.
