Warforged: MM vs Dragon Magazine

The new Dragon article on warforged seems to make some fairly large changes to their racial stats.

The gain: +2 intimidate, +1 will defense, and their Warforged Resolve power totally changes.

Old version: Encounter power, minor action, useable only when bloodied, get 3+ 1/2 level temp hit points.

New version: Encounter power, minor action, get 3+ 1/2 level temp hit points and a free save against an ongoing effect. If bloodied, also heal 3+ 1/2 level hit points.

So it now gives you (timed correctly) twice as many hit points and a save. I wonder if the rest of the MM races will get as large bumps if we see full race write ups for them.

one word : wow

I love the Warforged writeup. Not only it has the basic players stuff, but also feats and equipment, paragon paths and magic items just for them!

Since I use them in my campaign, it will be wonderful.

I'd also like to point out the article's layout format. It is nicely formatted to read on a computer instead of trying to fit on a normal letter page layout.

I hope this isn't the beginning of a trend of "We already published rules for this, but if you want a mechanically better version you need a DDI account"

As for this little package, it's great, the warforged were a little underpowered compared to a few other races in the back of the MM.

The MM has an entry for warforged as Monsters, the Appendix never claims that the entries are perfectly designed for players.

MM Warforged <> ECS Warforged

I'd buy that if one wasn't strictly better than the other. If one was balanced, how can the other be when its better in all ways?

Now, I thought the MM version was a bit weak, so the new version is fine with me. It just does seem strange to change it so completely.
