Revised Challenge Ratings/Encounter Levels pdf (Version 3)

Upper_Krust

Legend
Hi all! :)

Please forgive my starting of a second thread for Version 2 of the Challenge Ratings/Encounter Levels document, I attempted to put it top of the third page on the previous thread; however seemingly you can't add attachments to an edit.

I think having the actual download on the top post in a page makes it more convenient, and means people don't have to go hunting for it.

Anyway, I would like to thank the 180+ (at time of posting this) people who downloaded the first pdf, especially those who responded with the feedback which in part led to some of the changes you will notice, most of which are minor or cosmetic differences, though I also expanded some of the material therein.

For those who didn't see the previous thread, the following pdf encompasses the Appendices of the (as yet unreleased) Immortals Handbook. More information on that book can be found here:

http://enworld.cyberstreet.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38364

As before let me know what you think about the pdf, good or bad, I appreciate all constructive criticism.

Now, without further ado...

Edit: Incidently I just removed Version 2 and updated with Version 3.

Version 3 Errata

Hi all! :)

Okay, instead of churning out a new version each day to accomodate minor errors, I'll just list them here instead.

1) Non-Ability Scores

The following changes should be in effect:

Non Strength - = CR -2 (instead of -1)

Non Constitution - = CR +2 (instead of +3)

Non Dexterity - = CR -2 (instead of -1)

Non Intelligence - = CR -1.5 (instead of -0.5)

This has an impact on some of the Templates including...

Ghost (base +5.9)
Lich (CR +8.1)
Vampire (CR +8.1)

...and Types:

Construct (CR -0.5)
Incorporeal (CR +1.2)
Ooze (CR +1.6)
(Intelligent) Undead (CR +1)
(Mindless) Undead (CR -1.5)
Vermin (-1.5)

CCR (Version 3.0)

Hello again! :)

Edit: Okay seemingly I can edit a post which already has an attachment with another attachment, so I have replaced the Version 2 pdf in the opening post with Version 3 to hopefully avoid confusion.

I'll also delete Version 3 from this post for the same reason.

BUMP

Hello U_K

I think that you should edit the first thread with this attachment, because the number of download of the non-errated version has increased, while this thread is hidden in page 2 of the board (well, not anymore, BUMP :D).

PS: presentation much better, have you tried to put the title of the sub paragraph (Ability Score, ..., Multiple Attack, etc...) in bold?
It might look better, I don't know.

Hey Blacksad mate! :)

This is actually me posting from London. ;)

Well I had hoped the discussion would switch threads when I first posted V.2 (and subsequently V.3) herein. But people seem happy to download V.1, so I hate to remove the option.

...also I am curious to see how many downloads I get. ;)

Glad you like it.

I think I tried that and it looked a bit chunky.

It looks very interesting indeed. I'm going to examine it a lot closer when I get home from work.

I do have two questions: What would you estimate the CR (and ECL) increase for having max HP per HD, and for a template that increases HD by one.

Really looking forward to seeing the finished books!

Cheers,

Hey there Sorcica! :) (this is actually Upper_Krust)

Glad I could pique your curiousity. :)

Well I have rated this as a Divine Ability granting a +0.7 CR (total).

Essentially I would rate this depending on Hit Dice type (as detailed under factor 3. Hit Dice); however if you wanted an average figure I would say probably +0.65.

For a template that would add +1 to a class level it would be +0.8.

Hope that helps.

Thanks! I appreciate the interest. :)

Take care.

Interesting...

Is there a more current version of this doc? Has anyone converted the monsters out of books like Book of Vile Darkness or anything similar? Has anyone done a rough spread for the NPCs of various levels? I am interested in trying the system out, but don't want to have to figure all the new monsters I am planning on using (like in MM2). Just curious if anyone has done the work already.

Thanks.

I am currently finishing off Version 4 (the final version*)

*touch wood.

I may have this finished in a few days time. ;)

Thanks.

In Version 4 I have the revised Challenge Ratings for every creature from both the Monster Manual and the Epic Level Handbook.

However, since neither the BoVD nor MMII will not be entering the SRD anytime soon it is not the best use of my time to revise all the CRs therein.

I do have the Revised CRs for the Arch-fiends lying about here somewhere though.

What about...?

Interesting... my understanding was there was no epic level SRD. Anyway, are you going to convert the NPC for generic class levels, like in the DMG and the Epic book?
