Hushed tales told in the taverns of Thane tell of the Cugarrig, the "king of lynxes", and of the few who survive an encounter with the beast. A gigantic three-headed lynx of a black-flecked gray, the Cugarrig haunts the darkest reaches of forests in Thane, Brynn, and the Snowdonian Isles. Travellers through the Deeping Frith in Thane, where tales of its appearance are most common, are warned to keep their heads down and eyes averted should they encounter the fabled beast. But even heeding this warning does not always save them from its jaws and talons.

Rumors do not agree on exactly what the Cugarrig is. Some say it is a particularly savage force of nature, others a servitor of a particularly bloodthirsty woodland god (this rumor is widespread among the woodwoses, who say the god is Lykaon, a particularly vengeful aspect of the Cylenchar) and most unbelievably, a demon lord exiled from Hell.

The Cugarrig can speak Common, Elvish, and Sylvan.

Pounce (Ex): When the Cugarrig leaps upon a foe in the first round of combat, it can make a full attack even if it has already moved.

Improved Grab (Ex): If the Cugarrig hits with both claw attacks, it can also rake.

Rake (Ex): When Cugarrig gets a hold, he makes two additional claw attacks at the normal claw attack bonus that do damage as listed in rake, above.

This creature is based on a Paragon tayellah (both in the ELH). The Thick Skinned feat is from SS. It was originally inspired (somewhat) by the zubir from Sailing to Sarantium. And yes, cugarrig is a real Irish word, meaning "king of wildcats".

Nice critter, but I count the AC to be 69, not 44, after all bonuses are added together.... Otherwise, I like it, the Irish version of the King of the Jungle. I think it would fit well into the Moonshae Islands in FR just nicely :)

BTW, the justification for its animal empathy for cats & dogs more or less specific to my world - the cats & dogs of my homebrew are able to detect evil as a natural sense. This allows the cugarrig to defeat that. ;)

Thats a very good idea, having animals with some sort of natural ability to sense evil. Also good for the campaign, having horses stampede, dogs barks and cats getting anxious before the arrival of the great, grand evil.
