Personality
Mechanically minded to a fault relying on routine in their life. Ilyameitr like to know how things work and will gladly delve into gears and springs to discover how an object does what it does. They pride themselves in taking caution when disassembling mechanisms, and make a point never to steal items to study. Their mind is excellent at deduction, and makes hard puzzles seem easy, as they can bring facts and figures in the forefront of their mind whenever the need arises. Aside from being intrigued by gears and machines, they are pacifistic and mainly keep to themselves, abstaining from large arguments.

Physical description
Ilyameitr are grow to height between 5’8” and 6’8”, are gaunt, pale, but have rubbery, gristly skin and only the fewest hairs on their heads. The feature that makes them distinct however is at the elbow, where their arm splits off into two separate forearms, one with a tree-gripping claw, and the other with spindly fingers to pry into dead bark and pull out grubs and sap. Their feet have adapted for climbing and have two black claws at the front, and a tendon that stretches from the front of the foot to the back and helps pick up vibrations.

Diet
Ilyameitr subsist mainly on insects that inhabit trees, and the sap that oozes out of Jud trees. However they can manage to survive on only leaves of trees and some other vegetables.

Alignment
Gear and cogs rule the mind of Ilyameitr, ordered and measured. They usually pertain to a lawful alignment.

Homeland
Being as timid as they are they usually live in medium to large communities, inside woods where the Jud tree is, however this is not strictly limiting. They can subsist on leaves, bark and many other root vegetables.

Religion
Ilyameitr do not praise Gond zealously but regularly, and visit temples habitually.

Language
Ilyameitr possess their own unique language made from millions of words. It is designed to be accurate as a result it has extremely few words with different meanings, but also is not very easy to learn.

Names
Ilameitr use names as a title, the first name may refer to whether or not they are the firstborn, born in a certain date, under a moon. Further names are added that may discribe their accomplishments. Typical names include
Male: Elcor, Celnor, Rews, Uor and Nîoh
Female: Lio, Tîr, Paio, Ail, Jorb and Fye

Racial traits:
+2 Int -2 Con, they have a great control over their mind but have slight bodies.
Movement rate of 30ft
Low-light Vision Dregh can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. They retain the ability to distinguish colour and detail under these conditions.
+2 to climb checks
+2 to disable device
Tremor sense: The Ilyameitr can detect creatures within 15 foot of them, they cannot pin point their position.
Special attacks: Through the use of the climbing hand they can deliver an unarmed attack that deals lethal damage.
The favoured class of the Ilyameitr is Expert.

This is what I decided on, as a -2 dex +2 str on one hand (literally) and the reverse on the other would cancel the other out.

It wouldn't be wisdom... more likely intelligence because of their logic. This might actually induce a penalty to wisdom, as they would not be prone to thinking beyond the logical.

As far as physical, I don't think I get enough from your physical description to warrent an honest answer. Expand your description a bit and I might be able to come up with something.

Based on your description, I would argue for either Str or Con to have a penalty (I'm leaning to Str, but maybe both), and give a bonus to Dex. Also, I would say that both Int and Wis might receive a bonus - Int for logic, figuring out things, and Wis for common sense. Cha seems to be pretty neutral - I could see their logical ways as a bit of a stopper in social situations, but not really enough to justify a penalty.

So, for stat adjustments, I see two options:

Str -2, Dex +2, Con +0, Int +0/+2, Wis +2/+0, Cha +0 (not exactly sure which)
or
Str -2, Dex +2, Con -2, Int +2, Wis +2, Cha +0

They are admittedly unbalanced according to all guidelines I've seen. Depending on what you want the final result to be, you might add in that Cha penalty, or a further Con penalty.

Cool Ideas. I will flesh-out the write up when I've though about the race, 'cos their in my head but I just don't have words for it yet. I would like them balanced enough for a +0 LA. So a plus and minus on one, or a plus and minus on two, is ideal.

But they are gangly, and lanky so a -2 con seem appropriate, but then again a penalty to strength also seems appropiate.

I also like the idea of the 'tool' arm having -2 to strength +2 to dexterity and a -2 to dexterity when using the climbing arm, and then the bonus that we decide on as well.

Sigurd's O2

I picture something like an intelligent sloth or orangutang perhaps given to creepy 'how does it work' theft, even surgery. My guess is that they are a oligarchy venerating their elders. I imagine that linguistic limitations have prevented them from preserving the answers to this fascination and maybe satisfying it.

Perhaps they are on the brink of advanced tool development as a species. Is their probe forearm a bone spur, or a horn, or perhaps a nail with a Psionic Edge. As a ritual or under certain condtions they might be able to lengthen the psionic portion of the probe and use them as short swords. Elders might maintain their position by guiding/enhancing the younger creatures in this.

Cool ideas, but I'm trying for magic light, so the creatures aren't inherently magic/psionic. Plus I don't know what 'oligarchy' means. I understand the archy bit just not the olig.

There 'probe arm is like our hands but with slighly longer fingers, I've also thought about an extra thumb on the other side in place of the little finger.

They don't just walk up to things and take them apart, they are very civilised and can talk.

Instead, like a few people they whose thoughts go in wavy lines, they go: A to B to C answer. They do Deduction well.

Oligarchy is a government by a select few, I suggested elders but it could be any small group.

Given only normal powers of concealment they could be very scary race. I imagine big questing eyes and a tendencey to take everything apart, even other races.

Humans encountering the dismembered bodies would most likely attribute all sorts of nasty things to the species. It could be that they just don't know how to put things together and they are fascinated by taking things apart. Perhaps they are deaf and talk with sign language but have an elaborate tremor sense and sense of smell to know when people are coming.

Well from what i'm seeing these guys should have
a climb speed or some major climb bonuses
tremor sense that works in the trees
and the four arms trait or treat the powerful claw hands as natural weapons in capable of using most items and such and use its other hands normally giving them the option to use weapons and claws simultaniously
some sort of bonus to messing around with gadgets possibly some alchemy bonuses because you mentioned they did things with sap

I'm not touching ability scores yet

I never intended them to take things apart will nilly, especially not other people. They are more bookish then offensive when taking things apart, if they were humans with the race's traits, they'd be model makers not sociopaths.

If you've ever seen Jonathon Creek, and seen how he see things differently, things just click and it seems simple to him. Thats how they 'understand' mechanisms (like clocks etc). Kind of like savants counting things etc. They just have a nack for those kinds of things.
