Description and Personality: Prone to wild fits of yowling rage and terrifying bouts of anger, Rawhide is everything that his name infers him to be. The coal black, burly and bushy shifter is more often than not semi-intelligible, but one thing cannot be denied – that he is a force of nature in battle. When his blood becomes churned by the heat of battle, there is very little – wound or word that can pull him off of his intended victims (and occasionally, his friends)!

Rawhide appears as a exceedingly shaggy, utterly unkempt man who looks far older than he truly is - this is primarily due to his harsh upbrining (as well as the effect of that upbringing upon his current view of the world and himself). For instance, Rawhide knows nothing or bathing or grooming, nor of personal hygeine - as these concepts are nearly alien to goblinoids (which are the only examples he's ever had) and even more foreign to the slaves of said goblinoids. As such, Rawhide does not bathe (at least willingly), nor brush his scraggly, frazzled hair, nor does he clean his teeth, his hands, his gear, or even his food before consuming it. He has no manners to speak of, though he has managed to learn that there are a few things that will quickly spell danger or death in civilized lands (just because he knows these things, however, does not always mean he follows them...). His gear is likewise patchworked, barely functional and in aplorable condition; it is usually covered in a thick layer of dirt, mud, offal, blood or a mixture of all.

While shifting, his appearance grows even more fearsome and wild, causing him to look more like a rabid, raging animal than a humanoid...

While Rawhide is neither smart nor wise, he is incredibly intuitive and canny - traits that he owes wholly to his background. Somehow, the shifter seems to know when a situation just ins't right and he generally reacts very dramatically to such situations. While Rawhide hates injustice, he is not above taking an eye for an eye, should the situtaion call for it - about the only thing he hates more than injustice is slavery, which he deplores and about the only thing he hates more than slavery are gobliniods, which he attacks ON SIGHT, unless he is simply overwhelmingly outnumbered (and even then, sometimes, he just might anyway).

Height, Weight, Age: 4 ft., 190 lbs., 23 years old.
Region of Origin: Darguun
Languages: Common

Background: In one way or another, Rawhide has always been a slave... Born into bondage within the horrific goblinoid slave pits of Rhukaan Draal - his mother (who was raped and beaten daily as he grew up) was captured from Breland during the Last War. She always told Rawhide that he was the child of shifter lords and that no matter what, if he should some day escape, he should go to the far off place called "the Reaches", claim his birthright, and then return to avenge her. She made him promise, daily, to do this for her.

And so, Rawhide became a slave to his word...

Rawhide and his mother were the property of a particular cruel hobgoblin lord - a lesser chieftan of the Rhukaan Taash, or Razor Crown, clan - known as T'ktash. He kept them on chains and when he was not beating, abusing, or defiling them he forced them to do tricks and shift upon command. Occasionally, he would have them fight wardogs, goblins, wolves, wargs, or even other shifters for nothing more than entertainment. When his interests wandered to his other slaves, he left them to languish in their own waste, starving them into servitude and compliance.

And so, Rawhide became a slave of the flesh...

The young shifter grew and finally, when she felt that he was old enough to fend for himself, Rawhide's mother ripped her own throat out right before her son's eyes. Her dying words were that he should be strong where she failed and that she was sorry for the life she had given him. This horrible scene would become the single most important moment in the young shifter's life; awakening something in him that he had always held in check, for the sake of his mother. He knew that if he did the things that he desired...yearned...ached to do that it would be his mother who would suffer most gravely for them. It was at that moment that Rawhide found his rage.

And still, Rawhide became a slave of his own memories...

That very night, Rawhide killed the despondent hobgoblin guards charged to watch over the shifters - he ripped them into shreds and then gorged himself on their bodies until he could eat no more. Then he fled, finding his way, somehow, to the Ghaal River and then to the Marguul Pass. He knew that he very well would be hunted, but he did not care - any death was far better than the only life that he had ever known.

And so, Rawhide became a slave to his past...

Now, with nothing more than the few weapons, armor, and scrabbly possessions that he has cobbled together, he seeks something that he has never known: freedom, peace, friendship and equality.

And yet, Rawhide is still, and always shall be, a slave to his rage...

And it is that rage that drives him, ever onward...

Description: Massive, but somewhat graceful, Flawed stands 6’8’’ tall. Like all Warforged, it is composed of several different materials, among them a Darkwood core and metal plates. The metal plates however have silvery sheen, a sign that they were laced with mithral for additional protection. On its head, Flawed sports the signs of Cyre, but marred to signify that it never served in the Cyran armies. It carries a battleaxe on its back and a heavy crossbow at its side.

Background: I am flawed - those were its first thoughts. Strange thoughts to have. As it stepped out of the forge, it saw a few things lying nearby. A book. Taking a closer look, it turned out to be a spellbook. The creature was supposed to be able to use it. As it sat down to study the book, it came to the conclusion that it was capable to use the book as intended.

It looked further, and its eyes rested on another object. A sword. The creature was supposed to be able to use it. But picking it up, the creature could not see itself using it. Flawed. As it registered a training dummy, it decided to test its skill with the sword - and failed miserable. The training dummy was animated, and easily deflected all attacks. Frustrated, the warforged threw away the sword, and tried to destroy it. It was stopped by two Cannith artificers, who had watched the first steps of the warforged.

As it stood there, listening to the discussion of the two artificers, it wondered what would happen to it. It was created for a task that it could not perform. The Last War. Not that it understood why it was called “Last”, while it still happened. Then it noticed that the discussion came to what to do with it, and one of the artificers, Jhaeren d’Cannith, decided to take it with him to Sharn. The warforged had a hard time understanding some things Jhaeren said - when referring to Sharn, he once said that it was a “three-headed extraplanar creature”, and when the warforged corrected him that it was a city, he said it was a “joke”. Whatever a “joke” might be, the warforged did not understand. And it also did not understand what he meant with “If you think you know what you’re doing...” when it decided that its name should be Flawed.

In Sharn, Flawed learned that Jhaeren thought that there was a chance for it to become what it was meant to be, by training in the arts of combat. But no matter how much it tried, Flawed could not use a sword, or a similar weapon. It managed some success with an axe, but nothing significant. Jhaeren still was convinced of Flawed’s potential, but did not have the time to teach it. Hardly one year after coming out of the forge, Jhaeren left Flawed for a longer journey to Cyre - only a few days before the Mourning. Presumably, the artificer died in Cyre.

Ever since, Flawed has attempted to unleash the potential Jhaeren had seen in it, and taking a few jobs when it became necessary. It has yet to find if the potential actually exists.

Changes:
29/08/04: Used scroll of repair; paid 5 sp for a room; gained 100 XP.
10/03/05: Leveled up

Background Story
Gannon was originally a cleric of the Church of the Silver Flame, but the high degree of bureaucracy within the church quickly became too much for the free-spirited Gannon who didn’t think that a military-style chain of command was very effective. He was also tired of hearing pf the Puritans and their constant crusades to rid the world of all sorts of evil, but what finally made him leave the church were the stories of corruption spreading within the church. He didn’t want any of that and chose to become a wandering vigilante dedicated to The Traveler. Wherever the road would take him, he would try to do good deeds, but his faith in authority had diminished after his time with the Church of the Silver Flame. For reasons unknown, Gannon has become obsessed with exploring old ruins to find powerful artifacts. He doesn’t really know where the urge comes from, but he believes that The Traveler is leading him to greatness. He is not an overly religious zealot, but he has faith in his deity. In order to be able to move about freely he has taken up some of the skills that his deity is known for.

Gannon is a good man, but he certainly has a problem with authorities.

He is currently in Sharn to find clues in Morgrave University about what lost artifacts may lie hidden in the ruins of Xen’drik.

Description: Plonk wears a cap and has all kinds of gearbits dangling around his body.

Background: Plonk grew up in a gnome community and trained under a clocksmith. However, he wandered Eberron plying his trade and ended up working for a group of Warforged, becoming their resident 'mechanic', so to speak. He left the warforged after about ten years of service to seek other trades and develop his skill as an artificer.

Generally jovial, he loves smoking his pipe which sends him into coughing fits.
