There's well over a hundred and twenty different classes and subclasses in the 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons game, and we're on a mission to determine which one is the Survivor! And this time around, we are comparing all of the Mystic subclasses. The Survivor of this round will advance to the final round, where it will face off against the champions of all other character classes. (And it will very likely be the only Unearthed Arcana champion, if the current trends hold.) The year was 2017. D&D Fans: We demand psionics in 5th Edition! Wizards of the Coast: Here you go, give this a try. D&D Fans: (not even looking) No, not like that! Aren't you even listening to us?! Okay, maybe that's an over-simplification, but Wizards of the Coast made an earnest attempt at giving us something we had been requesting for years (a psionic character class), and by most accounts it didn't go very well. A popular rumor at the time was the Mystic playtest somehow had both the fewest downloads and the highest number of survey responses, so obviously, people were hate-voting it without even looking at it. That old rumor probably wasn't completely true, you know how Reddit can be, but this much is true: WotC would never again try to test a Psion core class, and wouldn't do another Psionics playtest of any kind for more than 3 years.
