Actually that concerns me: Most probably it is a perception problem. ACs range between 10 and 20 usually. Level 6 PCs slightly above average should attack with a +8 bonus at most (magic weapon or fighting style archery not accounted for). Monsters at that level usually attack with a +5 bonus or so. So probably your PCs have AC 18 on average. Your monsters 14 or so. So while the difference in to hit is 8 or maybe even slightly higher, your monsters still do hit and can also hit by a margin of more than 5. Your PCs do hit with low numbers bit not always and not alway by 10 to 15. Only with high numbers anyone would have hit with anyway. Why is it good that PCs are hit lwss often than enemies. - it feels good not to miss and not to be hit too often. - PCs face a lot of encounters a day. Monsters usually only one. So what you need to do is scare your Players more. You don't need high numbers. You need to challenge them by attacking when they don't expect it. Send reenforcements. Usually in old dungeons, rooms are so close that you attract enemies if you are not careful. Make encounters big. Set ambushes. Make sure they get their 8 encounters a day without long and short rests at will. Reenforcements can let a second encounter happen just after the first. If you do that just one in a while, they will spend resources to prevent attracting enemies. Silence, invisibility, pass without trace, darkvision all cost slots. Some of those spells also cost concentration. And on top of that they won't blow all their resources in every fight. They will conserve some spells just in case something unexpected happens.
