[QUOTE="QuaziquestGM, post: 3419084, member: 22559"] High level gm advice from my experience as a player. 1: Templates don't always "really" increase cr. This is especailly true of "brute" templates such as Feral. It might make the monster more difficult for the fighter, but will only make it slightly more difficult for the party as a whole, and will make no difference at all for the casters with the exception of the amount of xp they get for getting rid of it with the same spell they would have used on the base creature. Putting a 1/2 terrasque and a feral template on a (sm/med/lrg critter X) barberain y rogue z won't make it (or its 1-5 buddies standing adjacent) last one segment longer than the same base melee brute once the wizard, cleric, or mystic theurge opens a gate under its feet and drops (flushes) it (them) into the elemental plane of air (water). 2: "Surrounded by enemies" = "Oh, this spell is going to look really cool", as the caster pulls out spell marked (S) for shapable or with area X contiguous 10 ft cubes/Y caster level and applies it in 3d like the Blue Angles doing skywriting. The Druid will stairstep Firestorm around the room to hit the badguys on the ground, the badguys on the walls, the badguys on the roof, and use the leftover squares to write his name in block letters all while hitting both of the guys flanking the fighter without even setting of said fighter's Degree (body heat activated). Mind you, this is not a bad thing, just unexpected for melee focused gms. 3: If you make a multi level complex, make sure you know how thick the floors are and remember that the 3rd story floor = the 2ed story ceiling. If you but uber golum on the upper floor, if your casters have any imagination at all, it will be clearing out the floor below for the party after they destory the floor/ceiling under it's spell imune @$$. 4: Unless your melee players really like rolling "that many" dice, you should find a computer program, open a customized window for each melee type, and roll damage instantly for them. Otherwise you will have time to go to Papa Johns, order the pizza when you get there, and bring it back while fighter X and monk y roll, count, and add their full attack damage. 5: At high levels, summon monster X and SNA X, particularly the elementals, will solve pretty much any problem. Why send the rogue to take out the guards when you can send 1d3 huge earth elementals to earth glide under the guards and grab them? 6: Stone shape is easy to abuse at high level. The vampire's castle is on the cliff face? A little bit of trig later, the casters will have figured out the exact combination of stone shape, disintergrate, shatter, and SNA thquaa 's they will need to drop the castle and a good bit of the mountian under it into the valley, while still having a sunburst to irradate the rubble. Trapped doors are handled as easily as "computer. delete doorframe" (I haven't pulled the castle stunt, but I have taken droped a 'pet' undead dragon and a bit of floor into an ork minion dormatory, and I've taken apart my share of dungeons.)
