hey! i know this thread is a few years old, but i actually used this subclass as the basis for a subclass i'm using in a campaign i'm currently in. i did a little bit of rebalancing and reflavoring, and this is what it looks like now: SCHOOL OF DELIBERATION i thought that marrying the school of invention and the lore master was a neat idea, but i thought it felt a little too... generous? major changes:

i changed the flavor from "inventor" to "indecisive researcher," i thought it worked better with your (extremely good) spell page concept as well as my rework of the 14th-level feature
i put the UA arcanomechanical armor back, but i changed it to give resistance to one's own magic, which i admit is less practical than either what you gave or the original arcanomechanical armor concept. but it's flavorful, and i think the rest of the class features are good enough to have something underwhelming?
i made the spell pages a bit narrower, and progressively get even narrower at higher spell levels. higher levels mean you're more likely to get a single spell you have in mind, but also more likely to get your fail state. also, to further incentivize their use, i made it so that you can only pick spells you've cast before to transfer from your spell pages to your spellbook. (just in case that isn't an option, the player can also roll as if they're picking a spell to cast)
set a restriction on the elemental change to be a number per long rest equal to half the wizard level, and also made it so that it only applies to spells actually in your spellbook
i did, unfortunately, kill the 6th level metamagic thing? i might put it back
i balanced the 14th-level ability a bit by making it something whose usefulness is entirely contingent on multiclassing, limiting the number of non-wizard spells per level, and i am personally very proud of the title i gave it. UA school of invention had a spiritual successor in the form of the GGTR's mizzium apparatus due to that UA having beta versions of the ravnica subclasses, so i think codifying the exploit you can use in the mizzium apparatus' RAW if you multiclass felt like a good concept?
