Auto-list 'feature' - can it be turned off?

Whenever I want to make a series of points or give examples, the forum software automatically converts it into 'list' format. Very annoying. Is there a way to defeat this somehow?

For example, when I type in

"1. testing"
"2. testing 2"
"3. test number three"

without the quote marks, I get

1 testing
2 testing 2
3 test number three

Even though in the editor it looks like I want it to, the forum software converts it to a 'list'.

I may be missing something, but I can't see any difference between those two lists (other than the quote marks)?

Oh, I see! The periods are missing.

The top left button in the editor removes formatting. That might do it.

Sorry - I thought I'd deleted this thread instead of posting it. Oops.

Feel free to whack it to clear the clutter. If an actual example arises of what I mean I'll point it out then.
