Mariana reacts preternaturally quick as the orcs jump out, her bow in her hand and an arrow loosed at an orc. The shaft imbeds itself in the wood of the fallen tree trunk, much to the young woman's chagrin. Seddon reacts quickly, his bow drawn and arrow notched even before the orc finished talking. As he brought the bow up and drew back the string, he could see movement from Mariana out of his peripheral vision, but instead he focused on the orc displaying himself, trying to adjust for wind, the log, and distance. And with that he loosed. Seddon's aim is true, and his arrow plunges directly through armor, flesh, and bone square into the orc's chest! It looks like it should be a mortal wound to the bestial foe, but somehow it manages to stay on its feet. The first volley launched by the heroes, the orcs now respond in kind. The first orc grabs the shaft of Seddon's arrow, and with a primal scream of pain, wrenches the arrow from his bloody chest. The orc points directly at Seddon, yelling, "Your arrow...is weak little human! Come closer to fight me...and die!!!" Despite himself, Seddon feels his knees weaken in the face of this fearsome spectacle. On the heels of this intimidating gesture, the other orcs launch a volley of javelins with devastating accuracy. One javelin catches Mariana in the thigh, eliciting a cry of pain and an ensuing gush of blood. She is hurt badly. Anundr fares even worse, as one javelin strikes the barbarian in the shoulder, and the other in the belly. The pair of forcefully-thrown javelins proves too much for even the mighty Anundr, and the big man goes down to his knees, bleeding and barely conscious. Meanwhile, even as the orc is still talking, Elandril draws and communes with his sword, seeking protection through the arcane. A shimmer of bluish-white energy envelops the elven mage, indicating that the protective magic has taken effect. Corus moves forward towards the orcs as he does so he calls out "Feel the fire of Saranrae" as a column of flame erupts from his hand. But, the errant bolt of flame gets away from Corus before he can even direct it properly and it scatters off wide into the forest. Anundr...??? [sblock=Combat Results] Mariana misses with her shortbow attack against the first orc. Seddon fires his longbow and hits the first orc for 8 damage. The orc is badly hurt, and clearly staggered, but remains on his feet. The first orc makes an intimdate check against Seddon and succeeds, causing Seddon to be Shaken for 1 round. Orcs other three orcs all launch javelins (and roll incredibly well, with 2 17s and 1 20) hitting Anundr with two javelins (for 14 damage total) and Mariana with one javelin (for 8 damage) OUCH! Elandril casts Mage Armor on himself Corus launches a Fire Bolt at the first orc, but rolls a natural 1. No joy there, sorry.[/sblock] ooc: Rhun, obviously Anundr can't go through with his initial action, so since he is last in order, I'll allow you to restate his round 1 action if you like. Everyone else, please go ahead and state actions for Round 2. I didn't recopy the map, because it's essentially unchanged from the first round. INITIATIVE ORDER ROUND 2 1.Mariana (2/10 hp) 2.Seddon (Shaken for 1 round, -2 penalty to Attack rolls and Saves) 3.Orc #1 (-8 hp, Staggered) 4.Orc #2 5.Orc #3 6.Orc#4 7.Elandril (Mage Armored) 8.Corus 9.Anundr (0/14 hp, Disabled) Orcs have cover behind the fallen tree.
