Once the pair of goblins show themselves and rush past Rainier Scarnetti, Phythas is quick on his feet. Forgoing use of his shield, the gnome grips his goblin blade in both hands and charges the closest of the pair of goblins. Though the gap between Phythas and the goblin is but 10 feet, the gnome is both agile and determined. The dogslicer does its work admirably, cutting though the goblin's outer leather armor and laying bare a bit of quivering thigh muscle. The goblin shrieks in rage and spits on Phythas as the gnome deals him 3 points of damage. [sblock=Phythas, Gron]The goblin that Phythas split open shrieks, "Pipsqueak wants to play, does it?!" [/sblock] Finally realizing that the festivities have come to a halt, Penn surveys the beheaded goblin, the ruined platter of smoked salmon, and the now panicking crowd of Sandpointers. Calm as the eye of a storm, Penn draws his rapier, thinking to himself. Looks like this could be a chance to make some coin. The halfling picks his way past an overturned wooden bench that only moments before held sway to a family enjoying their evening repast. In the common tongue, Penn shouts at Phythas's assailant, "Oy you, the little guy, how about you pick on someone your own size?" Phythas's goblin bares its yellowed teeth at the gnome and then at Penn's approach. The wretched creature snarls and, its own impromptu dogslicer in hand, lunges at Phythas. As the goblin leans in, Phythas feels the tip of the creature's makeshift dagger pierce his gut then slide upward in an angle bound for his heart. The weapon, short as it is, fails to reach the gnome's vital organ and then painfully wrenches free as the goblin dances backward, cackling madly with glee as it deals Phythas 5 points of damage. Despite the blood that freely flows from the dogslicer's stab wound, Phythas can smell the stink of the fetid creature lingering in the air about him--rotten seaweed, the sulphur of forgotten eggs, and the sweet cloying scent of dung. Completely ignoring the battle going on in the church square between his kin and one of the townsfolk, the second goblin continues singing to itself in a high-pitched squeaking voice. [sblock=Gron, Phythas] Delighting in one particular phrase of its song, the goblin repeats its favorite chorus over and over: "Chase the baby, catch the pup. Bonk the head to shut it up. Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed, We be goblins! You be food!" Chase the baby, catch the pup. Bonk the head to shut it up. Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed, We be goblins! You be food!" [/sblock]The goblin clambers atop the covered wagon. Hissing at the remaining acolyte until the youth trembles in fear and the boy drops his rope tether, the goblin capers on top of the loosely draped canvas, then yanks the canvas free for a peep beneath. The goblin hops back in surprise as doves, freed from the wagon's canvas, wheel for the sky in a mass some hundred bodies strong. The small goblin hops up and down, growling and trying to snatch one of Father Zantus's pigeons for a meal. Gron takes cover behind Ameiko Kaijitsu's buffet table and takes a bead on the goblin chasing doves atop the now uncovered wagon. The arrow flies wide into the sky, missing the goblin but felling one of the doves in flight. The dove falls from the sky and lands with a thud beside the wagon, much to the delight of the goblin, who eyes it with intent. Tossing the bloody napkin he'd recently used to wipe clean his blade back onto the table, Rainier closes with the nearest goblin, intent on finishing off the beast as quickly and neatly as the first one. Rainier swings his greatsword and levies yet another fell blow to yet another goblin. In a spray of blood that covers the front of Phythas's tunic, the tip of Rainier's greatsword pokes through the front of the goblin's chest as Rainier deals 9 points of damage to the goblin, killing the creature outright. The younger Scarnetti withdraws his blade from the limp kill and looks about for another goblin to slay. The beast atop the wagon is near at hand, though not in reach at the moment. Ravi breathes deeply, trying to steady his hands, as he moves closer to the goblins. May the gods guide my hands, so that I might protect these people, Ravi silently prays. Fixing his aim on the goblin capering atop the wagon, Ravi fires his crossbow at the creature but misses, his bolt instead hitting the wagon's axel and shattering.
