Creator Submissions for DM's Guild Print on Demand (POD) is Back

The DM's Guild has Updated Their POD (Print on Demand) Guidelines for Creators

This week, the DM's Guild released their new guidelines for Print on Demand (POD) after a period of not taking in requests from creators for hard cover or softcover options. A few years ago, the DMs Guild was accepting submissions for POD titles and released a set of guidelines that had to be reached in order to be accepted. A number of creators were selected to have their titles available for print which felt like a trial run of the POD program as a creator who had a title brought to life in hard cover. (After going back and reading the announcement posts, this was considered an experiment by staff.) Not long after POD opened up, they announced that they were no longer taking submissions for printed products. After POD submissions closed, the DM's Guild staff reached out to creators who had good sales to select who could obtain POD.

The newly released guidelines for POD are tighter than the last trial run for the print option. Existing titles must be 100+ pages, conform to DM's Guild policies, and be a Platinum best seller or better sales wise. It is possible new titles will be considered if the creator has Platinum level sales or higher. POD files submitted must be created by one of the listed approved layout creators in order to be reviewed by their team. The guidelines also include specific instructions for all POD submissions, important links, and the approved layout designer list. The guidelines also state that they are a living document and may change as the staff makes adjustments during the trial run to improve the process and encourages creators to check back regularly for changes while preparing for POD.

Based on the Twitter posts and new guidelines regarding the new POD guidelines this week, the original process for POD titles was cumbersome for DM's Guild staff who had to upload files and serve as a liaison between creators and the printers. The process also required a lot of back and forth with creators to get the POD print files just right for the printers. The DM's Guild stated they had plans to possibly expand POD further in the future and they are currently not accepting new approved layout artists at this time, but they are ironing out the processes for possibly accepting new layout artists to their current approved list in the future. So far, there has been mixed reactions from DM's Guild creative community members on social media as the DM's Guild tries to make another trial run of their new POD process.
